Thread: Archer III Prop Partially Missing

  1. #1

Default Archer III Prop Partially Missing

Only a portion of the prop seems to be showing up. Outside the aircraft viewed from the nose the prop is fully visible. Viewed from the tail looking forward the prop is only partially visible near the prop hub(looks like 2/3's of the prop was chopped off). Prop is also only partially visible from vc.I know that some graphics cards may affect prop animation but I don't believe this is the case here (at least not for me). I do not have this problem with any of my other Dreamfleet GA aircraft (new or old). By the way despite the prop problem its a great little plane. Appreciate your time. Thanks, Dennis

    Hi Dennis,

Since this is the only report of this so far, I would need to see a screen shot. The fact that you may not suffer it with other DF aircraft does not necessarily mean it is a defect with the product. We advance things all the time with each new aircraft, and a video driver issue may not be out of the question. With little doubt it is some issue at your end. Just what remains to be determined. :)

I never said your product was defective :-). I'm merely reporting what I am seeing :-). It is true that some graphics cards won't display prop or helo rotor animation due to the advance in graphics techniques. I remember this was an issue when FS2002 was replaced by FS9. This is odd though. Why would you see the front side of the prop animation and not the aft side? I do own a payware a/c that has a disappearing black glare shield. It disappears and reappears at will depending on the angle when panning the vc. Strange tales of science fiction? I'll try and provide you a screenshot. Never attemp ted one but I'll give it a try. Appreciate your time, Dennis

    Hi Dennis,

    When you add to this:

"I do own a payware a/c that has a disappearing black glare shield"

We really need to see a screen shot. This sounds video related.

Let me also add that in real aircraft the back of the prop is made to be as invisible as possible due to its being painted with flat black paint. It is often barely visible. I mean, what pilot would want to see a spinning prop in front of them? ;)

In FS, perhaps lighting effects may have some effect on this, but I'm just guessing.

From the VC we expect the prop to be barely visible (as in real life), same for when behind the aircraft, however it appears you may have some other issue, but without seeing a screen shot of it, I am just throwing out ideas.

Give that screen shot a "shot" and we'll be here to have a look. :)

Go here (see the links in the post under "How To") to learn how to post screen shots to this forum system.

Solved issue by using prop texture from another dreamfleet aircraft. Now I can see spinning prop from the vc.

    Hi Lou,

Here is probably what dprosser means by "partially missing". 'cause I've the same problem with the Archer III (no problem with Beech 58).

and when you go behind the aircraft and look forward

As he said, it's probably a problem of texture. But I don't find which one.

    Best regards,
    Emmanuel

    Ah, well, of course!

The back of the prop is painted black so it is not seen by the pilot. For the most part all seems well at your end.

From the cockpit I do not see a spinning prop unless the black paint as become worn and faded.

If you need to see the prop from this angle, you can always paint the back (actually called the "face" of the prop) a bright color. It is located on the DFPA28_FUSE1_T.bmp texture, which you will first need to use Image tool to open, then convert to a .tga, then paint on the .tga and convert back to a DTX3 using Image Tool.

Beware, if you do this you will have a very unrealistic, distracting prop in the VC!
