Thread: Baron Lite FPS

    Default Baron Lite FPS

    Hi,

I just got the Baron Lite and it seems to have everything I was hoping it would. I am using VC exclusively and due to the removable yoke it finally works really well.

My problem is that I find the performance to be unacceptable.

For comparison, if I get 20 FPS with a default plane, about 15 with the 310 (which is fine in terms of what it offers), I get only about 10 FPS with the Baron Lite. It basically cuts my framerate in half.

I was under the impression that the 'Lite' model is better on framerates since it doesn't have the fancy equipment.

I read in previous posts that it may be the GPS and that the RealityXP version is acutally better in terms of FPS.

I'm not sure what to do now. As it is, it is clearly unacceptable, so it may be the first Flight 1 product I ever return.

But maybe should I give the RealityXP version a go? I think the upgrade link doesn't work yet though.

Or should I modify the panel to get rid of the GPS? If so, can anyone point me to instructions on how to do that?

    Thanks,
    Matthias

Hey Matthias, I had some issues with studdering in the lite version as well. I now have the RXP version, and it is 100% better. I was going to wait for the update link to become available as I did not want to add more work to these guys. Of course the kid in me came out and I went and purchased the RXP version while I still had the lite in the hanger. I ended up returning that. You would think the RXP version would cause a performance hit. It was the best move I could have made. I originally got the lite version because I am a Win2000pro user. This should hopefully clear up your performance problem you are having. Every system is different of course, as I'm sure there are alot of lite version users out there without issues. Good luck to you and Happy Holidays!

    Best regards, Jeff

Thanks for the info Jeff. So they took the Lite version back, no problem ?

I checked out the Reality XP page and read about the advancements they made. I guess I should have gotten the RXP version right away.

I've had the Meridian for years, but at the time I bought it it was way too slow for my PC and I didn't like the apps that have to run in the background for the RXP stuff. That's another reason why I was reluctant to get the RXP Baron.

I'd love to do what you did and buy the RXP version but I am worried I may run into trouble if I end up trying to return the Lite or even both.

Please keep in mind that even the Lite version has more of an impact on frame rates at the default aircraft. You can try switching to the RXP version or simply removing the default GPS from the Lite version, but don't expect the same frame rate at the default aircraft - or even the 310 for that matter.

Thanks Todd. I definitely don't expect default plane performance, I just posted that for comparison. If it's not too much slower than the 310 it should be just fine.

Anyway, I spent some time with the Baron Lite and already love it, despite my performance gripes. No surprise you guys got 5 stars for it. So I am going the safe route and just submitted a ticket for return of the Lite and when that's through I will repurchase the RXP version.

Well, I returned the Lite and got the RXP version. It is slightly better than the Lite but not by much, so I got rid of MyTraffic and use default traffic again and also upgraded to faster memory.
The plane is well worth the compromise. The RXP gauges are great and I am considering buying the FLT gauges to retrofit my other planes pretty soon.

DF may want to consider mentioning on the webpage that the Lite version does not offer a performance advantage as the name may imply. That may avoid similar confusion for future customers.

The RXP stuff has come a long way since the Meridian times. I'm glad I got a taste of their latest stuff through using the Baron 58 RXP.

Where on the DF web site did we say that the Lite version offers a performance advantage?

It only offers a lower price, and that's what "Lite" means! ;-)

Well, you didn't. But to me the name alone sounded like it would be "lite" on my CPU, kind of like the Carenado 210 includes a "light" version that is less CPU intensive. I guess I should have taken the spelling into account. :D

No big deal, it's all sorted out now.

This plane truly brings the FS experience to a new level, like the plane is already FS 11 flying in a FS 9 world.
