Thread: fly with CIVA INS...

    Default fly with CIVA INS...

    I spent my time about this about 10hours.
    I'm korean, so maybe my mistake on understanding small parts of manual.
    But, Really I can't understand.
    I can't align my position.
    here's my using.

    1. Set to STBY at MSU.
    2. Set to DSRTK/STS on all CDUs for malfunction.
    3. Push TEST switch.
    -> illuminate GREEN & RED light on MSU.
    display digits showing 8
    4. Check CDUs the ID program
    -> 11 17 appears.
    5. Set POS.
    -> That's problem. If I input my LAT&LONG, INSERT button keep
    turned light on.
    6. Set to DSRTK/STS on CDU after that set to align.
    -> Decrease number from 95 to 65 and freeze.

    I try to click hidden spot, but it doesn't work.
    Something wrong in my steps? or I have to reinstall CIVA INS?
    Waitting kindly answer.
    Thanx, Have a good flight.

    From Boundary airport, BC, CANADA.

    Well, to reinstall is the first option, but I don't think this will work it out.

    Point #1 is OK
    points #2,3,4 are not important since if you have amalfunction it will tell you anyway.
    To insert your position rotate both knobs to POS then enter LAT --> push INSERT --> if you don't see anything happening it's normal, go on and insert LONG --> INSERT. Now you should have the right coordinates inserted.

    After that rotate the 2 coordination knobs to ALIGN and push the hidden spot (the screw). In few seconds you should get the INS flashing. If the red WARN light is on it means you are too far away from your last position. But all you have to do is pushing TEST couple of times and lights will estinguish. In this way you have reset the system. When you see the green led on the small panel rotate to NAV and that's all. Turning the knob to DSRTK/STS you should see a value of "5" or lower which means the system is OK to navigate.
    Now you can input waypoints.
    Of course, in order to align correctly, engines must be off.
    Hope this helps.

    Cheers
    Lorenzo

    All right.
    I tried it.
    But, I can not insert LAT%LONG.
    "INSERT" button does not turn light off.
    And NO NAV READY light even I click hidden spot after set to align.

    Hi,

    The correct sequence from power OFF is:

    * Park brake set
    * Mode switch to STBY
    * Display selector to TRK/STS
    * CLR twice (should display 06 then 41 codes - these are OK)
    * On second clear, lights should go to TEST mode and light up
    * Go to POS
    * Enter your latitude (N or S then 51 00 00 INSERT) for example
    * Note that the INSERT light will REMAIN LIT
    * Enter your longitude (E or W then 070 00 00 INSERT) for example
    * Confirm entered position against ramp position (Shift Z in FS and check these are the same)
    * If positions are the same, set the MODE switch to ALIGN.
    * Set the display switch to TRK/STS, API (Accuracy Performance Index) should read 09
    * On the display selector set WPT
    * Using the daisy wheel (0 -> 9) select Waypoint 1 and enter the first waypoint co-ordinates. Repeat for the following 8 co-ordinates (DO NOT ENTER ANYTHING INTO WAYPOINT 0!!)

    At API 08 light FAULT should illuminate then extinguish after 10 seconds

    At API 05 or lower, NAV RDY light should illuminate

    Once ready for engine start or pushback (anything that moves the aircraft) set the MODE SEL switches to NAV FIRST, but only once the units are ready for nav!! The lower the API (less than 05) the better the accuracy. If you set NAV mode before API 05 or lower, or you move the aircraft before alignment is complete and NAV mode set, alignment will FAIL.

    If the NAV RDY light is lit, and you have set NAV mode, INS is good to go!! :D

    In FS, the position might read:

    N 50° 5.07' W 80° 6.73'

    You would enter that thus:

    N 50 05 0 INSERT
    W 080 06 7 INSERT

    You do NOT round. You ignore the last digit from the position. Beware of the missing '0' in the position that FS provides. Although it is not there in FS, it must be entered into the INS otherwise you'll enter an incorrect position and alignment will most likely fail.

    Best regards,
    Vulcan.

    Default Thank you VERY much!!!

    I tried again with your instruction,
    I saw green light.
    Thank you very much.
    But, I couldn't follow the root.
    I think, I have to read CIVA-INS tutorial instruction carefully again.
    And, when I choose HDG select at AP,
    Heading pointer at Heading indicator shows me opposite.
    For example, when I fly to west to VOR, heading pointer show me East.
    I tried to change HDG, but it goes to east again.

    Thank you, & Have a safety and enjoyable flight.

    Yes, I did.

    Well, try this:
    provided alignement has been carried out correctly, fly the SID manually or using the AP in the normal way, then, when you are ready to use the INS, switch the "NAV SWITCH" on press "Waypoint Change" then 0 and 1 --> INSERT (of course HDG must be on as well). At this point the aicraft should turn towards the first waypoint on your route.
    Apart from that I'm out of idea.
    Hope it works.

    Regards

    I do. Apart the new features it's only a matter of installing it right on the other.
