Thread: LE Flap Indicator

    Default LE Flap Indicator

Hello, I've done almost nothing but fly the 727 since it came out, have been doing cold-and-dark to cold-and-dark flights and it's great.

I've noticed a few things that could well be me but just in case they're not (and could be addressed in the patch):

Is there a chance the LE Flap Indicator switch is reversed? (I searched the forum on these but nothing showed up...) I've noticed that right click moves switch left and vice versa; and that the switch position indicating "Light Test" seems to light up position indicators for current LE positions, whereas the position indicating "Postition Test" seems to light all indicators (ie, light test).

The anti-skid controls on overhead, "Inboard" switch position lights outboard lights and vice versa, seems reversed.

Cabin Rate knob on pressurization controls - tooltip indicating rate is offscreen (at 1280x1024 anyway) so I can't see the rate I'm setting. Is there another indication, or can the tooltip be right-justified?

    Wing anti-ice lights don't.

Can't get the Speedbrake Warning Horn to sound.

Minor points all, I'm just filing the FAA paperwork so to speak. Thanks very much for this aircraft. -- Dick Bixler

The position test works fine for me other than it should be spring loaded to the center 'OFF' position. When rotating the knob clockwise, it gives the 'Light Test' and counter clockwise gives the 'Position Test'.

This is how it works on the real aircraft.

In 'AUTO' mode, the RATE knob has no effect. If you are flying in 'STANDBY'(which is an abnormal mode) then you can set your desired rate. Each click is 100 fpm so if you go by the cabin VSI gauge you can get an idea of adjusting the rate without seeing the tooltips.

It appears that the light sequencing is a bit off. With the switch in the center 'CLOSE' position, I get the lights and they go out when in the 'OPEN' position.

Getting it here whenever the flaps are not up in flight and the takeoff warning works as well. What flight profile is it not working in?

re: LE Flaps - I'm good with this one now. Apparently didn't see the switch indicator right somehow...

re: Anti-Skid - okay, but seems counter-intuitive (getting used to this one tho).

    re: Cabin rate knob: okay.

    re: Wing anti-ice lights: okay.

re: Speedbrake warning: config is -200 passenger cold and dark. I see another user has posted on this as well. If you have the warning properly then perhaps it's some procedural error on my part (altho I've followed the tutorial and QRH checklist). Could you indicate the conditions under which the warning should sound?

    Hi Dick,

It may seem counter-intuitive if you have no training on anti-skid systems ;-) . What you are doing is simulating a wheel spin up on the wheels selected, eg. INBD selected simulates the inboard wheels spinning while the outboards are not spinning (BTW, this test is either done on the ground with the park brakes set or in flight with the landing gear down). This commands the anti-skid valves to release the outboard brakes as it senses they are locked in relation to the simulated spin up on the inboards and therefore the outboard REL lights illuminate.

Actually the takeoff warning with the speedbrake lever works when the throttles are advanced but the test listed in the QRH checklist uses a different system. The proper way to check the speedbrake warning is to use the FLIGHT CONTROL WARNING TEST switch on the overhead panel. You have to move the switch over to SAFETY RELAY BYPASS and then move the spoilers out of the down detent. You should then get the intermittent warning. Unfortunately with the switch in this position, it gives an alarm without moving the speedbrake lever out of detent.

    Hope this helps.

I believe the manual has you turn off the parking brake specifically when doing this test, so I guess I don't need to bother to do that?

It depends on what the operator has set up in their manuals. On the 727's I've worked on (early 100's to late -200's with the system as modelled) the test can be done with the park brake on or off and the preffered method as far as maintainers are concerned is with the park brake set. If you do it as per the DF manual, it still does the same thing.
