Thread: Navigation Lights in VC Mode

    Default Navigation Lights in VC Mode

    I usually fly in VC mode and the included virtual wings are great for setting up all sorts of cool wing views without the framerate hit of a virtual cabin.

    However, for some reason my wing-tip nav. lights don't turn on in VC mode. I made sure to set the nav. ligts to "flash-white" and "steady-on". Also, I verified in spot view that I had both the flashing white wing tip lights and the red/green wing tip lights illuminated. There was also another cool wing tip light that illuminated, placed at the end of what looks like a sensor tube or antenna. Yet when I switch to VC mode the virtual wings are dark.

    Does anyone have suggestions for viewing the nav lights in VC mode? It would be cool to see the nav. lights in action during virtual wing views, especially when flying through clouds, fog, and rainy weather.

    Thanks!
    Roland

    Nav lights and strobes are not visible from the wing views;)

    And the one on the tube like thingy, that lights the tail.

    There are wingtip lights positioned to be directly visible from a wing view, at least according to the spot view. It is a white, steady light positioned at the aft end of each wing tip on the end of a tubular structure (might be an antenna or a sensor).

    I understand what you're saying about the other nav. lights except that they're pretty bright, so perhaps you would be able to see indirect lighting from them, especially in clouds or fog.

    No problem though, just thought it would create an interesting atmospheric effect also consistent with the spot view but I'm sure opinions differ. ;-) Thanks for the reply.

    EDIT: Ok, just read Paul's reply. I think I understand now, the tube light is a FS9 device is to provide tail lighting. Now I understand how the spot and VC view are indeed consistent. Thanks, very interesting.

    You bet it helped, thanks a bunch! :-)

    I added the new lines for both Cockpit=1 and VirtualCockpit=1 to the specified files and now I can see the navigation lights (or the light's halo effect) from both 2D and 3D.

    Actually what you have to do is go to your main Effects folder and open up the .FX files used by the DF727 with notepad. Once you find them add this line underneath (Properties) : Cockpit=1

    Your file should look like this:

    (Library Effect)
    Lifetime=5
    Version=2.00
    Radius=-1

    (Properties)
    Cockpit=1 <----New Line
    VirtualCockpit=1
    Spot=1
    Tower=1
    Map=1

    These are the effect files you need to look for and edit:
    fx_navredh,
    fx_navgreh,
    fx_beaconh,
    fx_navwhi,
    fx_beaconb,
    fx_df727_strobe,

    After that you will be able to view the navigation lights from your Passenger wing views and any other view from the 2D cockpit.

    Hope this helps.
