Thread: Repaint kit question

    Default Repaint kit question

    Hi,

Thanks to Dreamfleet for an awesome add-on, and a great paint template. But I am having problems finding the bare metal fuselage part of the template, or is it not there? I saw a fantastic Northwest repaint on this forum that had the bare metal lower fueslage and want to go 'old-school.'

    Any help much appreciated.

    Dave,

I was kinda curious about that one myself. I know I've seen screenshots on this very forum (or maybe the DF General Discussion... now I can't remember for sure which it was) of a great-looking American Airlines Astrojet with just a bare metal look.

Either somebody has a "special" copy of the template, or they drew the bare metal layer themself... unless of course the new T-o-M is smart enough to automatically do a bare metal layer where there's no paint? Nah... that couldn't be it (must just be the 2am talkin' ;-))

You need to have a little creativity of your own :-) The Astrojet screenshot isn't using any DF metal layers.

The ommission of metal layers was intended. I found that nearly every metal 727 photo I looked at was different and I really wanted to avoid having everyone painting 727 using identical metal textures...........hopefully this isn't causing to much of a problem. Let me know if it is.

Paul, It's not a problem at all, I will just have to get the knife out for some cutting and pasting. I really like the 'old-school' metal. But I see your point very clearly; sometimes you get a bunch of paints where all that was changed was the color on the cheat lines.

Paul, thanks for a fantastic add-on, I'm getting a ton of pleasure from flying her painting her.

That reminds me. Tonight I'll anchor a thread for repaints and start it off with the suff I have ready and almost ready for upload. Then we can all keep an eye on what's in progress to save duplication.

Sounds great Paul! No problem for me, either (except that I'm no Bill Browning & are creative enough by half to create a metal layer ;-))

Having used the Flight1 Iron Knuckles DC-9 template before I had been kinda hoping there would be one, but like I say it's fine. The only aircraft I'm working on only uses a little bit of it on the underbelly, and considering that I've seen so many variations on this airline's paint scheme, I'm probably not even gonna worry about it.

    Thanks!

LOL! Thanks for that. Actually, I used Rui's bare metal layers on the last one. I usually mix and match his layers with mine and a bit of tweaking.

You can use the "aluminum" textures that Eric created awhile back. They are a bit sterile, but are great starting points. For a small amount of metal they might be just the ticket.
