Thread: Real Life 757 question

  1. Default Real Life 757 question

Does this aircraft land 'harder' than its couterparts? I noticed this on an American Airlines flight from TPA to STL the other day. I have only flown on 757s twice and both landings seemed rougher than other commercial flights I have taken. Thanks for any feedback.

I too have landed in a 757 twice. Except I was on United Airlines. Both landings were the softest I've ever had. I think that maybe its just how the pilots are trained at American. The hardests landings I experience are on Southwest 737s.

It all depends on the pilot and the weather conditions.....

Noone lands harder than I do in my 152... talk about todays bouncy "hit and go" at Danbury KDXR for my 3 landings/takeoffs...

I wonder about that. I've never had a problem with 757s, but the last time I touched down as a passenger in a real Dash 8 (America West, landing in Phx), the landing was about the same quality as my landings in Flight Sim (which are iffy, at best)

As I was leaving the ship, I noticed in the cockpit the master warning light was on, and wondered if they blew something on that landing.

Nah, alot of times they will come on at shutdown, or if they were starting the next pre-flight, you would notice that as well. No big deal.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like this was a case of my overactive imagination. I was sitting in the middle of the plane so maybe so the sound of the gear touching down was lounder possibly.

Yup - I remember hearing a story a while ago debating the merits of a "greaser" landing vs. a "stick it hard" landing. The greaser may be more pleasing to passengers, but a lot of pilots prefer to make positive contact on landing - especially in wet runway conditions. Helps reduce the chance of a skid or hydroplaning.

    See ya in the pattern!

Yea I have landed a 757 about 30 times in a simulator and all my dads freinds that fly 757 say it is hard to land but i did not think it was as hard to land as the 767-400.
