Thread: Cessna 152 Questions

  1. Default Cessna 152 Questions

I was flying the 152 out of Oskosh and just started playing around, and to my surprise I found that flying in level flight I kicked full right rudder and began to turn a level 0 degree bank angle 360. The plane stayed level no lose of airspeed or altitude. I have never flown a real 152 but I don't think this would happen in the real airplane. Should'nt the plane be able to crab? I know full rudder was a little extreme but I don't think this should happen. I am using fs9 with the realism settings hard eveything maxed out, auto rudder is off. Has anybody had this happen or can duplicate it? Or am wrong and this is something that can be done in a real 152?

It's certainly possible. In FS2004 every change to an air file is a set of compromises. It's quite possible that in order to get one parameter correct, Steve Small had to make this area of the flight model incorrect... however I don't speak from a position of any authority.

Until you brought this matter up I had never considered putting in a bootful of rudder to see what would happen with no other input.

I tried it, got a degree of bank but as you say no real tendency to enter a dive.

Finally Dreamfleet didn't do any of the flight dynamics of the 152 so you really need to post this at the Flight1 forums

My original 152 & the update had Steve Small flight dynamics. The newest update is from someone else ( don't remember the name). But I prefer the "former".

But.............. I havn't tried the manuver in question.
