Thread: Customer input for 727 project

  1. Default Customer input for 727 project

    Hello,

One of my most favorite things about the Boeing 727 is the sound of those three JT8's spooling up, also the whistle that can be heard once in cruise flight; both heard best when sitting in the rear of the cabin. To be honest, I was disappointed with the sound package in the 'other' 727 simulator out there and I am looking forward to Dreamfleet's. I hope Dreamfleet is able to find a balance between the realistic sound that would be heard from the cockpit as well as being able to capture the effect that would be heard when positioned in the rear of the passenger cabin. Given Dreamfleets reputation, I am sure the sound effects will be awesome!

Naturally, we think the sounds are pretty good ourselves :-)

However, you'll appreciate that the product is designed for simulating flight i.e. being one of the pilots and therefore the sound package is set up to be heard that way. Sadly for some, that means that in cruise, from the cockpit there is little engine sound to beheard as the wind noise drowns it out.

Similarly, spool up from the cockpit in a real 727 is confirmed by the engine instruments as the engines themselves are not heard above the aircon fans.......sorry but that's just the way it is.

And don't even ask if you can hear the APU from the cockpit!

However, if you really want to enjoy the sound of those JT8's spooling up (or for a real treat, winding up to take-off power), you're more than welcome to go to spot view and let MS do the start-up for you.

    Cheers

    Paul,

does that mean we gonna hear most of the time those noisy fans?? :9 :-jumpy

    Paul,

    This should be interesting.

Folks want a cross between cockpit/sitting back near the engines/being outside- all while stting in the cockpit.

Oh boy, I don't envy you!

Ultimately, you can be certain you will not satisfy everyone, as we ALL know what one hears in the cockpit of a 727 during cruise, and it's not the engines! ;-)

Yep, the guy at the back shouting "louder please!" :-)

Fortunately with the config file that Nick has incorporated, every user can simply and quickly mess up the sound volumes as they like.

are you using config-o-matic? If so why not incorporate an option for sound levels into the config-o-matic... For instance an option that resets the .cfg file for those "backseat" drivers who want to hear the engines from up front in the cockpit...
    just a thought

Exactly what I want.....the real cockpit sound when I am in the cockpit!! :-)

I agree; lets have genuine cockpit sounds.

By the way, what is it that we 'all' know one hears in the cockpit of a cruising 727?

Is it the sound of armchair pilots pausing their VFR autoland approach to complain that the sounds of the circuit breaker switches is a semitone too low?

It depends on the plane and how much insulation has been installed or ripped out of it. Generally, from my experience, all you really hear is wind noise and depending on the amount of insulation dictates how loud it gets in the cockpit. I've seen some crews actually wear ear plugs, and that was for a major U.S. passenger carrier.

I don't claim to be an expert on this and I am confident that Dreamfleet has a much better idea of what its really like or what its suppose to be like than I do.

Whats this autoland that we 'all' speak of anyway. :)

    Paul,

Obviously, accuracy and authenticity takes presidence here -- as it should. If it has to do with a 727 and Dreamfleet, I'm pretty darn sure I won't be disappointed. Listening to the engines on the external view would would flip my pickle just as well.

    Thanks
