Well, in my defense, QNH is an aeronautical realted acronym, but apparently it has to do with the modeling of weather systems and such. Rather similar...strange coincidence.

Boyd,
I did a search for"Quasi-NonHydrostatic model" and found some interesting reading. I wonder what the next QNH related to wheather will mean. Perhaps it will be "Quite Nice question Happydude" :-)

I'm not sure what the 'Q's' stand for, but an easy gouge to remember what each is for is QNE-enroute (at altitude, i.e 29.92) and QNH-'home' field ( field altimeter setting).
JCH
all the "Q's" are today an old term, I've talked to people who used it still, In mexico it was still used untill some years ago. all the Q's denote a request from ATC, this code is used in sea navigation also, I haven't had a certain answer if it is an abbreviation, but I think it is not. QNH means the question: Whats the atmospheric pressure in X station?
So does QNE which means whats the flight level you're flying, and so QRE and all the Q's
I hope this helps to you research on the meaning of QNH ;)
QNH is still used very widely indeed... In fact, it's probably more common than the use of inches of mercury (and should become more so as the inch is left to die the horrible death it so deserves :-)).
