    Default DF737 Autopilot

Ok I know this subject has been beaten to death but I've noticed something that I am very curious about.

Contrary to many folks, I have in many instances managed to successfully autoland the 737 using APP mode. What I'm curious about is that everyime I successfully perform an autoland, it's always on a CAT II ILS approach. Everytime I try to autoland on CAT I or anything lower, it doesn't work. I was just wondering is this pure coincidence or did DF program this much realism into the plane?

In reality, it should be only CAT III, never CAT II or CAT I.

In the end, we are dealing with an imperfect sim (reality is not perfect either), so at times it will be hit or miss.

Also, in real life, pilots perform autolands with these aircraft less than 1% of the time.

Yes pilots hand fly the approach and landings. This is for all pilots on all equipment types. Several friends of mine who fly for United all hand fly from takeoff up to cruise altitude as well as hand fly the approach and landing. It is rare (except in bad wx that pilots auto land).

That's confirmed... my dad can count on one hand the number of times he's performed an autoland in a 757/767 on a real UAL revenue flight. The only cases are when weather is below CAT I minimums or when the aircraft needs to have one performed in clear weather to validate and re-certify that the system works. They also perform one in the sim during the dreaded 6-month proficiency check (PC). I believe nearly all of his autolands were into KSEA... gee I can't imagine why! By the way, CAT IIIC autolands (zero RVR) are illegal in the US - CAT IIIB is as low as you can go, otherwise it's time to divert...
