A word on AIRAC Data Updates

Hello All,

I have read with a lot of interest, and some dismay, the various messages related to the non-provision of AIRAC Data for the DF-737. It's been a while since I was last here, indeed it has been a while since I was last involved with flight simulation!

It is a fact that I have not done the navigation data for a while, but keep in mind, this is a GAME! Some of you have labeled me as unreliable, and lots of other things, without knowing anything about me or what keeps me so busy...

...so let me just enlighten the few folks out there who keep bleating about the navigation data and not being instep with the real-world and how much the data changes in Europe...

... I write and maintain flight planning software for a living...not ones used by General aviation, but ones used by airlines. My FIRST PRIORITY and RESPONSIBILITY is towards my airline customers and their requirements...getting airplanes full of real people such as yourselves across the crowded skies around the world AS SAFELY AS POSSIBLE!!!...so you better pray that I am not "unreliable" since who knows, your next flight may very well have been planned by my flight planning software!

There are other people out there who have started providing this data and are doing a fine job of it (like Richard Stefan), so you can always request Tom and Lou to use them instead, but for god's sake stop hankering about it and slamming people you don't know!!! Sheesh, sometimes I wonder why the hell I started this whole nav data thing back in '99!!! Should have just stayed away...

In any case, for the vast majority of you out there who are quietly waiting for the update, I have uploaded Cycle 0208 to Tom and Lou. They will now decide whether to use what I uploaded or use the data that Richard or someone else can provide...

I'm only locking this so that Prabal's explanation can stand on its own, and we do not get into another AIRAC saga here.

Regardless, there is nothing we can do with the data Prabal sent until Tom Main returns from Oshkosh. Period, end of story.

As far as I am concerned, both Prabal and Richard can do it if they so please. All I want to see is an end to the childishness concerning what is FREE, and provided by kind gentlemen as Prabal and Richard.

Yes, Prabal, I question why you AND Richard bother to do this, and for FREE. You've spoiled many, and thre are those who do not realize how good they have it.

Should these updates not be "realistic", and paid for on a subscription basis as in real life?

I think so! ;-)

Of course, we'll no doubt continue to be unrealistic, and provide these updates for free.

Then of course, we'll get the posts here complaining when the data is not perfect!

:-lol I guess we're just suckers for punishment, eh?
