    Default DF737 AP Problem!!!!

When i set an alltitude for example 30000 feet and then press the alltitude button it becomes on for a few seconds then it shuts off.
Why is this happening with this i can't get to my cruise alltitude.
But it shows on my EADI that the Alltitude is on

I don't mean to be rude or anything, but have you read the manual, specifically the part that talks about the 737 autopilot? The answers to your questions are all there.

The button underneath the altitude isn't the altitude select, it's altitude hold.

That would be the knob adjacent to the altitude readout on the MCP. :-)

As Lou said it's the knob next to the readout on the MCP. It's the same know you're turning to set your altitude in the MCP:o

To get to the selected altitude you either have to use the LVL CHG button or the V/S button.

    SaS,

Here's the Cliff Notes' version of using Altitude hold:

To specify an altitude and have the plane fly to that altitude:
    [ol]
[li]Use the knob labeled 'SEL' under the 'ALTITUDE' display on the Mode Control Panel (MCP; aka "the autopilot") to change your desired altitude. Click on the +/- to change the value (left-click in 100 foot increments, right-click in 1000 foot increments).
[li]Take off and manually (without autopilot) hold the plane at the V/S (vertical speed) you want, then press the button labeled 'V/S' on the MCP. Use the vertical dial to the right of this to set the desired vertical speed.

The plane will fly at this vertical speed until it reaches the altitude dialed in under 'ALTITUDE'. Once it nears that (within about 750 feet I believe), you'll see 'ALT HOLD' display in the Annunciator panel (just above the EADI, or "artificial horizon") in green. This tells you the plane has "armed" the 'ALT HOLD' mode on the "autopilot." Once the plane reaches the desired altitude, this green indicator will switch to a white 'ALT HOLD' display, indicating that the autopilot has locked onto the desired altitude. The 'ALT HLD' button will not illuminate. (At least not that I recall - I haven't flown the 734 for a few months!)
    [/ol]

To hold the current altitude only:
While flying, press the 'ALT HLD' button on the MCP. This will engage the 'ALT HLD' mode at the altitude when the button was pressed and the autopilot will hold the plane's altitude at that altitude. This will cause the 'ALT HLD' button to illuminate.

    Hope that helps!

    See ya in the pattern!
    -Josh
