    Default ILS problems

    Hi!

I know this has been up numerous times, but for some reason I can't get it to work 100%. When trying to land using the autopilot (totally automatic landing with both NAV radios set) the autopilot almost every time overshoot. The alignement with the runway always works perfect, but the plane stays on the same altitude and don't descend. I'm using the correct speed setting, flaps setting and get messages saying "localizer alive" and "localizer captured".

    Any ideas?

And then another question when I'm at it. I tried the FMC tutorial in the DF 737 documentation for the FMC. You prep the FMC with FL15, but you don't let it go to more than 6000 feet during the first stage according to the tutorial. But after passing a certain point, the tutorial says that you should change the altitude to FL15 to let FMC climb to the preset FL of 15. But where should I do this? The tutorial said I should set that in FMC, but I presumed that was an error in the tutorial and that they meant that I should set it in the autopilot (don't remember the correct name :-) ). Anyways, I changed the alt from 6000 feet to 15000 in the autopilot and according to the tutorial, that should make FMC climb to FL15, but nothing happened and the AC kept flying at 6000 feet.

    TIA,

    Richard

i just did the fmc tutorial this morning, mine also stayed at 6000ft but i noticed the vnav button was not lit, i pressed it and plane climbed to 15000ft no problem.
made it all the way perfect landing..

OK, I'll give in another try and check the vnav button in particular.

I'm quite new to all this, so I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to remember everything when I'm up there :-)

What about the ILS, you don't have any problems with that in the way a described in my original post?

i am new to this as well, im having a great time learning, as for the ils i dont seem to have a problem, although sometimes the plane seems to be under the glideslope, i look at the vasi and i have a red and white so i leave it, one thing i think i was doing wrong was i had a full load of fuel, maybe this makes the plane to heavy, also someone on the forum told me the 737 was designed to be used with 50% realism settings, maybe this helps...
ps last night i did my first autoland both a and b autopilots pressed when on approach, this dropped right on the centre line, was great to watch from spot view..
    good luck

Well, I guess it's just keep practice for both of us then. But I agree, it's nothing but fun learing these kind of stuff!

One thing that I find strange is that MS hasn't released any pathch for FS 2002 yet when there are known problems (with the glide scope/ILS etc for instance) and the product has been out on the market for quite some time now. Or have a missed the patch maybe?

    Happy flying :-)

Personally, I think it is very strange that they won't come up with a patch knowing about all the problems that is with their product. And a couple of them quite severe.

Honestly, I don't think that should be accepted by all of us buying their products, but I guess you or we don't have much to put up against Bill and his friends at MS and the decisions they make...

i suppose we the only thing we could do is to stop buying the products, but then we would miss out on what we have got..
a no win situation i think

Exactly...which M$ of course are well aware of. And instead of trying to solve issues and bugs with their product and show us that they care even after we bought their product, they start producing the next version which they can later on sell to us again for another $50-70 - no wonder Bill is rich...

Well, why bother - back to the school books and the virtual sky again :-)
