    Default Reverse Thrust Problems

Hi all, this may be an issue for FS2002 furum, but DF737-400 shows the problem I'm having better.(besides DF737 is the only jet I fly)
Whenever I try to activate reverse thrust using F2 key it never happens, the 2 warning lights flicker on and off on the panel and I can hear the cowlings move, that is opening and closing continualy. So far I have flown my way out of this problem by flying approaches with correct speed and flap settings, but it does get a little hairy on short runways.

Any help would be most appreciated as I have only had FS2002 for 2 months and DF737-400 for less than one.

    Thanks

Are you pressing and holding the F2 key down? Just pressing the F2 key once will not keep reverse thrusters deployed. I have no problems with reverse thrust on the DF 734.

This has been a puzzle for me ever since I learned about it in some forum. You see, for me, pressing F2 once to activate and pressing again to deactivate has always seemed to work fine, at least judged by the sound feedback and the increased rate of decellaration. Next time, I must remember to watch the lights.

I haven't tried it, but assuming that my observations are correct, I suspect keeping the F2 button depressed would result in rapid toggling, just like what G-RKS describes.

Can anybody come up with an explanation if this mystery, other than me being mildly senile? I actually prefer it to work the way it does now, but my curiosity demands to know why there's this difference between systems.

    Best regards

You might also want to watch your N1 RPMs and EGT..... you should hit around 70% or so N1 in full reverse (I would have to look at a landing to give you an exact number).

This sounds like a joystick analog noise problem (and not specific to DF737).

Your reverse thrust is activated when you click (and hold) F2, but the least bit of noise (ie. like extremely subtle movement) from a joystick throttle or similar will cause FS2002 to idle throttles and hence deactive reverse thrust, upon which you by holding F2 reverses them again, and the joystick idles and so on and so on.

I've had this problem as well, and found that experimenting with the FSUIPC 2.85 joystick tweaking with setting start and end points helped quite a lot. Give it a shot.

First a big thanks to all of you that replied.

Jack, I think you've hit the nail on the head with your responce. For some time I have had what I would describe as he "Shakes" on my joystick. Even when it is at rest the contol surfaces twitch all the time. I have a Saitek 3D Cyborg and ever since I have had it calibration has been a long process. Also I have never managed to set this stick up in digital mode. Just to get the throttles to settle at the idle position can take at least 10 attempts. Have you any ideas as to what may cure this problem, I've had this stick for over two years so its well out of warranty and to return it for repair would be un-economical.

    Thanks for your help

    Thanks, glad I could help!

I don't know if purchasing another stick will make your life any easier. I had a Wingman Extreme Digital that I used all the time for FS2000, then with FS2002 I got all these throttle problems, so I figured I'd buy a new one; got the Logitech Extreme Digital 3D which really had throttle issues, got it replaced and the same thing happened, so I really doubt replacing your joystick will make much of a difference, but thats just my experience.

The fsuipc trick made a huge difference though.

Intriguing. I have experienced the same problems with reverse thrust application; i.e., annunciators activate briefly, but then the reversers fail to actually remain active. I tried all sorts of variations on the timing and length of the F2 keystroke, but yesterday discovered that they work just fine, so long as you are rolling-out using the 'landing' view (i.e, the top arrow on the VMP directional 'rose').

I tried repeating this a few times - i.e., switching to landing view just after touchdown, then activating reversers with F2. Worked fine each time... but not in the 'normal' view.

Incidentally, the F2 keystroke activates reversers without fail for me when using other F2002 default aircraft with the feature, so the issue is seemingly unique to the DF737 (rather like the terrifying propensity for a conspicuous nose-plunge at ca. 2000 FPS when tidily capturing any glideslope from below, using APP mode, I've discovered!).

I also have a Logitech Wingman. Maybe there's a link evolving here between the posts on this reverse thrust topic?

    Regards

Could be that Logitech drivers allow more noise to pass through to the games, but its not a Logitech-only thing. I've seen posts about this for CH products as well.
