Thread: Frame Rates...

  1. Default Frame Rates...

Hi Everybody- My first post. I just upgraded my computer, so for anybody who's wondering what a high end machine will give you-

I have an AMD 1900+ XP (The chip and motherboard were only $300!)
    384 megs of PC133

Windows 98/2000 (dual-boot, same frame rates in both)

ASUS Geforce 2 GTS with 32 megs

In 800x600 I get 25-100 FPS with all detail on.

In 1600x1200 I get a pretty steady 13-45 with no Anti-aliasing, but everything else maxed.

FS2002 has really come alive. Flying over Connecticut with denses forests as far as you can see in 1600x1200 at very playable frame rates is fantastic.

    Just thought I'd share...

    XP1900+ with SDram? That's interesting....

  3. Default RE: Frame Rates...

Yeah, I already had the RAM, and they make boards to support it, and they are cheaper so I just bought that instead of having to buy different ram...

It's a Gigabyte brand board if you're wondering.

That's great, it makes a big difference having a nice system eh?

I would really recommend moving to DDR. With a fast processor and a nice card like that running at AGP 2X or 4X, you are really maxing out the bus with SDRAM. With DDR you can move a lot more data across the bus. I'm not saying it will make a world of difference, but it will make some difference.

Also when you can , change the Graphic card to a GF 3 ti 200 or 500, its far faster then the GF 2 GTS .

100 FPS? My computer is the same thing with more RAM and theres no way you get 100FPS (not with sliders up anyway). Show us a screenshot after pressing Shiift+Z twice.

    I want to see this.

PS. I dont dont believe you, just seems incredible.

How is this possible? I have an AMD 1.4Ghz chip, 1 Gig of PC133 Ram, and a Geforce 2MX 200 card and I usually only get around 5 fps near the ground and about 12-15 up higher, with all the sliders maxed. How do you all get such great rates? Tried all the latest drivers, etc.

    Just wondering....

Get a new Graphics card , that GF 2mx 200 is holding you back big time.

    Hi christian,
    Welcome to the forum. :-wave
Not one to disbelieve, and don't want to put you off the forum but I would really like to see a screen shot of this 100fps

Just for curiosities sake.......of course. :-hmmm

I know that the XP1900 is a fantastic cpu but do you realise that the PC133 RAM and the Geforce 2 will be strangling it.

Not so much the GEForce 2 but If you filled your other two Ram slots with DDR then you would really release the power of the XP cpu. In the current config you will never get the full potential of the XP cpu.(Which is why I am a little scepticle about 100fps)
I would go as far as to say that, even though you may not notice, the Ram is definately causing a bottle neck in your system. Upgrade it and you will see.

You may want to read my article on Ram that I posted in the How to's page.
    You can find it here
    http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/howto/ramvsgra.htm
You need to copy the whole url and paste it into your browser address bar (for some reason the whole url is not linked)

Hope it helps you to understand

    Now..........lets see that screen shot?
