    Default Grass runways, taxiways, aprons, and their textures; suggestion

    It seems to me that there is room for improvement of grass runways, taxiways, and aprons.

    First, the grass could be a bit darker and less "bland", which would make it fit in better with the FS textures. A grass apron stands out way too much right now.

    Second, the runways have "wheel markings" and the taxiways need these too, perhaps to a lesser extent.

    Third, I am not sure what the thinking was when the runways were made semi-transparent; was there supposed to be a grass apron underneath them? Or were they supposed to allow the underlying FS texture to show through? Whichever it was surely the same should be true for the taxiways too, so I don't see why they were made differently. Either make both semi-transparent, or both opaque.

    I find myself making more grass fields than any other type, so I would really like to see this happen.

    There is nothing here that SGX can fix - you need to either create or download texture replacements for those things. And I don't see semi-transparent runways in my FS9.

    Tom, Give me an email and I will send you a pic of a semi-transparent grass runway. And where would I get a replacement texture for a grass taxiway? Plus, how would I install it and wouldn't GenX then use that for both apron AND taxiway as it does right now? I don't feel qualified to tamper with GenX as to which texture to use for what.

    Hi,

    I'm not saying your runways aren't transparent - I'm just saying mine aren't, so there might be a video driver problem, etc.

    The texture assignments are hard coded in FS, not GenX. If you change a grass texture, it will be used anywhere FS uses that texture. I think that grass runways and gras aprons use different textures though (the rest of the surfaces do).

    Sorry, I don't know what addon packages include a grass runway texture; I use airland1.zip for most of my airport textures, but I don't know if it includes a grass runway. A post at one of the FS2004 forums might give you the info you need. Even better would be bush flying forums or similar.

    Thanks for that. I am totally unaware of what drives GenX or where files are sourced, as you can tell.
