    Default Need Jetway help!!!

I have DL'd and copied (white set) Shehryar Ansari's jetways into the Airport for Windows/API folder. Opened APW and entered all thats needed in the General window. Tried going through the Create list but not sure what move I need to make next.

Jaybird has been most helpful with getting me this far. I hope he or some other kind soul will spell out in detail how to not only get the jetways to show in the scenery, but also how to properly locate them.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Frank..

You can place this or any other 3D object the same way in AFW. In this case, your newly downloaded jetway api macro can be 'Browsed-To' and installed as follows:

    1) Right-Click at the location you want the object to appear in your project. In the resulting 'Create 3D Object' window of AFW, click-on "User API", then click the <Select> button.

    2) In the resulting 'windows explorer' window showing the file contents of your API sub-directory, double-click your new jetway api macro's filename thereby selecting it as the added 3D object. The name and location on your hard drive of the selected (jetway, etc) api file now appears in the 'Create 3D Object' window of AFW.

    3) You can then adjust the objects' heading, range, altitude, detail level, etc in the 'create 3D object' window. If the api macro's author specified any parameters to be entered, they can be entered under the 'User Parameters' column of the create window -- then, click the <OK> button to close the create window.

    4) Click the <Compile> button on the AFW Toolbar to compile the scenery.

    5) Click the <Run> button on the AFW Toolbar to start FS and verify that the added 3D object is where you want it, etc.

Notes: AFW allows editing and saving changes to user defined macros' SCASM code if desired, by clicking the <edit> button of the 'create 3D object' window. This brings up another window containing an <Edit API File> button for this purpose.

Clicking the "SCASM" button of the 'create 3D object' window shows the line of AFW code that gets added to the project's .sca file used to call and compile the object from it's location on your hard drive.

    Hey Frank...

I just remembered that Mr. Ansari's Jetway Api macros had been discussed here before, so I downloaded it and tried it. Sure enough, I discovered that if you only call it as a standard 3D object macro it won't be visible in the sim. The reason is that this one is a Gmax derived 'FS Regen' converted macro which calls the jetway object as a library object. Simply creating a 3D object of it in AFW does not install the required library object bgl file into FS9.

To correct the problem, copy the file named "gatelibw.bgl" (contained in the download) into your Add On Scenery\Scenery sub-folder or into any Scenery folder that's been activated in FS9.

Note that the object's scale should be reduced to around 0.15 else it will be grossly oversized.

I thought I'd better tell you this or you'd have drank all the booze in Pensacola worrying about this... :-lol

Thanks Jaybird. Glad you came up with this. Tried creating a jetway all of yesterday afternoon. Didn't quite know how to tell you that all I ever got was a huge black hanger with a white inside. Will try your latest suggestion this afternoon after the chores are done, and before the red wine influences my thinking.

Will keep you posted. Thank you so very much.
