Default Do we need to look at this security update?

    HI All

I know I had to load XML as I run Windows 2000 Pro not XP.
    I just saw this.

Thanks for the info! These apply to more than W2K as the download page indicates.

From my quick visit to the site linked in your message, it would seem that these updates are required if you apply Security update blah blah.

In other words, if you're not playing the MS game of eternally updating their security 'fixes', and your work with XML files is operating smoothly, then you wouldn't need the XML updates either.

    Hi Barney

I "play the MS game" because I have seen what can happen when you
don't. I have not been an MS fan from the DOS 4 wars but unless MS
issues a Linux version of FlightSim I'm stuck running one pc at least
    under Windows. :)

So I had done the security update.

You are correct Barney. Hopefully, MS will fix the update prior to release for WinXP to include the updated msxml(x).dlls. If not, I am ready with the downloads when BGLCOMP does play anymore.

I was not passing judgement upon those who "play the MS game"; I was merely pointing out to the original poster that _if_ he were not, then he probably doesn't need the update for XML.

But since you raise the argument, why not cease using the very things that seem to be inherantly prone to the security lapses in the first place; ie., IE and Outpost? Why not take responsibility for the security of your PC instead of placing your faith in MS's.....they can't seem to get it right, no matter how they try.

As for Linux.....if millions of folks used it like they do Windows, you can bet your bottom dollar there'd be security breaches with it in no time! Those who write the nasties don't have the time to bother with trying to 'bug' the other OS's.

    Mornin' Barney

By Outpost I take it you mean "Outlook"? My browser of choice is Mozilla Firefox (was Firebird) but alas my bank will only allow IE
or Netscape at the moment so an always up to date IE also lives here.

You are quite correct about Linux in that if Lindows started selling like crazy tomorrow it would soon become a target.

Anybody running an AMD XP 64 will be getting extra goodies in WinXP SP2. Buffer overflows may become a thing of the past for AMD 64 bit chip users.

Anyways....back to work....I have some scenery that's driving me mad. It just doesn't look right. :)
