This is flying over Lake Michigan, just north of Chicago.
Any ideas what's causing this?

Interesting. Download Flight Water Pro from flightsim.com
You wont be dissapointed.
I actually did try Flight Water Pro, but I was dissapointed and removed it. The texture looks good, but the color never changes. Try flying over the Carribbean or the South Pacific- all the water is the same color, even close to shore. With the default water textures, you get light and dark blues surrounding the islands simulating the natural look of water depths.
That will happen if you have the terrain mesh slider to low. A setting of 60 seems to be the magic point if you're running terrain complexity on dense or very dense. If I turn either down below those settings, I notice the same effect. Also make sure you run water on either detail or detail with reflections. If your settings are up all the way, then it's likely something else.
I've been having the same problem the last couple of days, on water and land actually. My water problem looks just like yours.
The land problem is an L-shaped area off in the distance, always on the upper right-hand corner of my screen that seems devoid of textures. To complicate matters, I wanted to make sure the glitch wasn't just with my frequent departing point of Logan Airport, so I took off from JFK last night and right there in the middle of the Hudson River are a half-dozen buildings as if floating on the water. And, sure enough, there in the same area of my screen is the L-shaped section lacking textures.
If I come up with anything, I'll get back to you. I'm trying to use the process of elimination to see what the problem is. If anything, I suspect I have one or more sliders set too high for my system.

suggestions:
1.don't use water reflection without using water detail.
2.your terrain/textures sliders may be too low and when you are at higher alt that's what it looks like.
3.try turning on extend terrain detail,I don't know if it will effect water textures but it might.

My problems seemed to start at the same time as I was using the F14A like you're using in the screen shot. I've been having some problems with my fsk2 recognizing the F14a's. They show up in the preview window but there's been a problem when I click "Fly Now". The plane reverts to a different plane in the preview window. I might choose the f14a "Jolly Rogers" and it's displayed in the preview window. When I click "Fly Now", though, the "Low Vis" version will pop up instead.
Could a corrupt file from a plane cause display problems?
Just a thought.

I have this problem too and I have all visual options enabled and all sliders to the max. Additionally, I'm in the default Cessna 172SP and no add modules, scenery, or planes have been added. It is a fresh install.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-25-02 AT 08:19PM (EDT)[p]That's a problem with the download. Problem of it reverting back is due to the fact that the Aircraft Cfg file has them listed with the same Title F14A. Second line in the aircraft cfg file. Change one to F14A1 and the next to F14A2, etc. and the problem will go away.
