Thread: ? this path

  1. Default ? this path

    Hi
Under "Directories there is a path option to "BMP2000 (or other) Graphics Viewer Directory".

Could some one tell me what should be in this location.

Also every time I look at Directories The "File BGL Path" always appears blank or does this only apply if the check box above is not used?

    Any help appreciated.
    Martin

***BMP2000 is a popular freeware texture bitmap viewer and manipulator. If you have that utility, it's location on your computer hard drive would normally go here in this blank.***

***The reason it appears blank is that you have not yet filled-in that blank. Apt26 will write a copy of the in-work .bgl file into the "SCENERY" directory for the "Named" scenery you're working-on -- BUT you have to tell it where to go in this "File BGL Path" blank. In the example picture previously sent to you, the example shown was telling it to go to "FS2002\KVLA\Scenery. You're required to have already created a "scenery" sub-directory in FS2002 under the name of the scenery you're working-on and that's all this is. You should <Browse> to find that location on your hard drive and enter it here. NOTE: This "File .bgl Path" should be filled-in regardless of whether or not the box is checked. I think in most cases the box should be checked.***

    Thanks again JR
    One final point.
I see you use the same location for API and User API.
Does this allow you to view the item by scrolling down ie. does it add the add on API's to the drop down menu or do you still need to use the userAPI dialogue box to locate and view the item.

    Cheers,
    Martin

    >>>I see you use the same location for API and User API.<<<

***Hi Martin... It's simply a matter of choice --- I choose to keep all my .api files in the \API directory thus both pointers point to the same directory on my Hard Drive. If you choose to keep your "User" API files in a different directory then this "Set-Up" option in Apt allows that choice.

Selection of either "Airport Default" .api's OR a "User" .api is controlled by which election box you check in the "Create 3D objects" window of Apt26, (Not this "Options\Directories" set-up window)***

    >>>Does this allow you to view the item by scrolling down ie. does it add the add on API's to the drop down menu or do you still need to use the userAPI dialogue box to locate and view the item.<<<

***All the listings in these "Directory" settings are only "Pointers" that you use to point Apt26 to the correct LOCATION of the directory (or folder) containing the file(s) to be used's for the scenery application you're working-on.

'Not sure which "drop-down" menu you mean here --- There is NO drop down menu that allows you to "view" User.api files, other than the "Select" button of the "Create 3D object" routine's "User api" choice. "Edit API" or "SCASM Code" buttons, also part of the "Create 3D object" window are provided to view the source code; OR your Windows Explorer file viewer can also be used for this purpose. For User API's, if you want a thumbnail image of the User api object, you will need to have created a 128 x 128 bitmap of the image and placed in the Apt\Resources directory, then a small thumbnail sized picture of the object your user api creates will be shown in the "Create 3D object" window. Note that all of the Apt26 default .apis do show this thumbnail image but if you want one for your "User" API, you'll have to create it yourself.***

    JR
With Build 153 In the 3D object window to the right of the API radio button there is a drop down menu listing the default APIs. As you click on each the preview to the right changes. I tried adding an API to this folder(not the users folder) and the corresponding bmp to the resources folder, but it does'nt show on the drop down list. Perhaps it only recognises the default APIs.

I thought maybe that was why you put all your APIs in the same folder.

    Ouch!.my head hurts already.
    Martin

    >>>Perhaps it only recognises the default APIs.<<<

***Only the APT DEFAULT 3D objects, which are hard-coded (meaning: this list of files can't be changed by the user) are available using that scroll-down "List of Objects".

When <User API> is selected, then it's required that the <Select> button is clicked to opens up the file listing in the directory you pointed-to in the "set-up-directories" window for user api(s).***

    >>>I thought maybe that was why you put all your APIs in the same folder.<<<

***Not really -- I simply chose to not create a new directory for user .api(s) on my hard drive, leaving ALL .api(s) in the same directory. As an afterthought, I can see where it might be less confusing to a new user to create a new "User API" directory and point to it in this "set-up-directories" window.***

    Hang in there....
