    Default Flightsim disconnecting internet?

    First, my specs:

    Windows 98SE
    Celeron 550
    127K RAM
    Dial-up internet
    GeForce MX 400 64MB
FS 2002 Pro - Full install

FS 2002 appears to be shutting of the internet. I was trying to multiplay last night when the problem first appeared. I was dialed up to the internet and started a flight, when the internet disconnected. Well, that was nothing new so I redialed. And then it happened several more times. I didn't even need to be connecting to the multiplayer session. I have managed to reproduce this when no other visible programs are running. I was also doing Roger Wilco when it first disconnected. Also, I did no mods to anything with the multiplayer. Hope this all helps. This has me completely baffled and any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

That should be 127MB of RAM!

I have been having the same problem. The only way I can fix this is to run FS2002 in a window not full screen. I still havent figured out why it disconnects though. Hope this helps.

Hey lightning, do you have a bunch of programs running in your task bar, and have you emptied your internet cache? Also are you running a firewall, or virus protection? All of these things could be a potential problem, especially the firewall. Make sure that you have the latest drivers for your modem, and also, make sure that your ISP is correctly configured for your modem.
Maybe one of these things will help. As for your system, mine is almost identical , exept I have 256 megs of ram but only a 466 celeron. You may try getting another 128 meg stick of ram, as they are dirt cheap. Remember hat with a celeron you most likely only have two ram slots, so if you have two 64 meg sticks in now, you will have to replace them with two 128 meg strips.
    Hope this helps,

I closed out almost all the programs in the taskbar and emptied the cache. No firewall and I shut down the virus program. There were no new drivers for the modem. The configuration for the ISP has been set up for over year with no problems. Sorry, but none of this helped. It still shut off. I will probably upgrade the RAM within 2 weeks or so.

I tried running it in a window and that appeared to work. I just don't see the conection there. I won't be in too much of a hurry to switch back because it doubled my frame rates( 6-10 to 15-20). I would like to know why though. However, I probably never will.

    Thanks for all the help,
    Anthony

Ya' know I've heard that running in a window was good on frame rates, however I've tried it and can't tell any difference. Honestly, my little celeron is kickin' some serious butt. I have no idea why it runs so well, but I am getting frame rates in the high 20's low 30's routinely. I run everything maxed except for Terrain mesh-50%, Cloud density-20%, and ATC-50%. I back auto -Gen back to dense on multi-player flights, but run it full (extreemely dense ) on single player flights. Who knows. It does get a little choppy around SanFransisco and New York, but is still very flyable. I couldn't say that about FS2000, which didn't even have ATC, auto -gen, or AI planes. Go figure!
Anyway I would almost bet that RAM is your problem. 256 seems to be the magic number . You can probably pick up a stick for around $20 or less. Try Office Depot.

I am surprised at my performance too. I use the high settings on scenery with Autogen at sparse. Also, all the goodies like tri-linear filtering, AA, shadows, t&l, MIP-mapping. AI is at 20%. The autogen and AI were recently scaled back but I didn't think it helped much. I have been thinking about the RAM for a while and will get that ASAP.

I am experiencing exact same problem. I am wondering if you have been able to resolve it. If so could you please share the solution.

I do not believe it is a memory problem, I do have 512Meg. FS2K is running fine on the same system.

Modem is a 3Com Us Robotics.

    I would appreciate any comments.
