Tornado,

Nothing selfish about that question! I'll give you my take on the idea of virtual airlines... this is just my opinion, and why I like the idea. I think that some of us like VAs for the same reason that most flightsim pilots enjoy the AI traffic and ATC additions to flight simulator 2002. Its another extension of reality... another oportunity to take FS to a new level of reality, giving you a chance to interact with others in the real world who enjoy flightsimming. While VAs might not operate just like real airlines, its a step in the direction. It also provides a sense of community, much like these message boards. VAs probibly aren't for everyone... and yes there are a lot of VAs popping up all the time. But I think each one stands for something... maybe a tiny bit different from each other VA.

I suppose some might view VAs as being more of a hassle to join than anything else. But I think of it kind of like flying the old adventures that so many people download. It gives you a mission, a goal to fulfill, and just another way to make it feel more real. Just my opinion on VAs :-)

Sincerely,

Cory Wilson

It really depends on the VA. Most VA's are really built for the CEO to have fun, not the pilots. If you want to take a look at a VA that was built with "what's in it for me?" in mind then go take a look at Livewire Airlines. This VA is run entirely by the pilots who fly for it and offers more for pilots that any other VA ever built.

Personally I don't like flying for VA's. I always feel pressured into doing the flights and it makes the flight sim experience a 'job' rather than 'fun', although I can understand that some people would enjoy this. I also don't like all the admin stuff. I've flown for, managed and started VA and can honestly say that I get more enjoyment from creating the web sites for VA and then leave them to it. That way I get the fun of the creative bit and bail out before the dull admin stuff starts! :-) Although graphic aren't my forte :-(

LAST EDITED ON Jun-22-02 AT 07:08AM (EDT)[p]Hi guys. This is my first post in the VA forum.
Personally I like flying for VAs. I fly for Pacific Airways. I herd someone say that u get pressured into flying. Well, with my VA, that isnt the case. U just complete a flight when ever u want and at any time. Just as long as u fly one flight a month.
There are many flights avaliable ranging from small flights to the big International flights.
Now about the other bit. "Whats in it for me" well. Really u just get the enjoyment of flying. When u post ur flight log on the VAs website. U earn "money" which wont get u a thing but is just a bit of fun. The other thing is that u get ur hours up and work ur way up the ranks from First Officer to ATP Commander.
Hope this helps.

Regards Ryan

i just wish there was just the regular real life amount of Airlines. Then everyone can just join those. Because it sucks having only about 5-10 people per VA, when there could be like 100 per VA

But i've been through my share of VA's, and its tough, and gets tiring some times, which is why i've taken a whole year off. And thinking about coming back here soon.

If it's a good VA there will be 100's of pilots.

My answer to this is for the fun of it! A good VA adds a touch of discipline to your flying experience without making undue demands of you. In the past I've flown for Air Pacifica which I've found is really relaxed and lets you fly pretty well when you want over some stunning parts of the world. Also, if you fly online it helps to keep a callsign to one linking you to a VA so other pilots get to know you and your activities. Check out VATSMIM and IVAO in this respect. Blue skies! Cheers.
