Default Fokker 50 cockpit some hardware questions 'bout multi-displays

    Hy there all !

I've recently started building a Fokker 50 cockpit, based on the panel of Espen Ojordsbakken.

Question 1: does anyone know if there's someone around who is/has been working on a Fokker 50 cockpit ?? I just would like to know if I'm the first/only one around.

If you would like to have a little looksy at what I've got so far: http://www.fokker50.be.tf

Question 2: someone knows what kind of PC you need at least to connect 3 displays (or 4) to ? 1 display (17") connected to GeForce 2 TI 500 + 2 or 3 other 17" displays connected to basic PCI display-cards.

I had a Athlon 1200 in mind. If this is not enough for this (knowing that FS should run smooth with almost all sliders OFF! .. don't need no eye candy on my display, but in my cockpit :)) So if not fast enough I will save my 300 euro untill an Athlon 1800 or even better machine comes into that price category. I've got time .. I mean .. first the cockpit, then the pc's :) )

thnx for the futur replys! :) )

First of all... I have no answers for your questions but I want to say great job in your cockpit plans!!!! Im interseted in building my own 767 cockpit but still not enough money and time.( im a PPl student meanwhile and that expensive!!) But Ive added your site to my favourites and will check it alot next few months to check your progress....

    good luck and happy landings!

    nice :D

but all you people build is Boeing of Airbus panels !! Be creative for a change !! :)

No i can understand .. most of you prefer flying big airplanes but not me .. i like all between a learjet and an A319 or B732
(even a320 is to big for me !)

And since the F50 panel from espen is freeware and will be updated and he guarenteed me 100% coöperation .. what else do you want !?!

For the first time in 2 years I'd rather be at home than in Kortrijk where I have a dorm !! ;)

    Hi,

I haven't heard of anyone building a Fokker 50 cockpit, but I can tell you that I know two people building Dash 8 cockpits (me being one of them). Now for you second question, I think that 4 monitors connected to one pc is kind of heavy for one pc. especially for the one you're using. I would suggest to link at least to pc's together so that you have the advantage of using at least 2 cpu's. I would suggest to use one computer for the outside view, since you do want good frame rates of course, and using the other pc for the gauges.

Your web site looks very cool, and I hope that you'll be able to build all the parts the way they look on the 3d images.

Well HVB .. in that case I'll start off with 3 monitors connected to 1 pc (like on the 3D picture)

If no good framerate I can try and find a second PC to link into network.

The idea is to find an overhead projector to replace the outside-display after maybe 5 to 10 years. You know .. when I'll find money for that ;)

The cool part 'bout the overhead is that if you're not flying .. you can still use it for watching DVD's and other movies :D

So it IS kinda expencive but I'll use it quite often.

Default Fokker 50 home cockpit (day 8 : the frame)

frame has been made and pictures are online :)

to my oppinion it looks nice .. if i can say so myself.

finaly the cockpit starts to take shape and look like the plans I made in 3D studio max.

    Well,

I've been following your progress, and I have to say that you're working at a very fast pace and its starting to look very cool already. The pedestal looks very nice (very impressive). I would only reccomend you use gears for the throttle pot meters, becuase the foam might start to slip, and you still want to be able to adjust the throttle accuratly. I would also suggest to add side walls to the finished cockpit. It shouldnt be that hard to screw some wood panels to the side of the cockpit, and it will probably add more realistic feeling of actually being inside a "cabin".
Can't wait to see more work.

for sure I'll try and close the whole thing up a bit. Like a roof and side plates.

But fase 1 is just to make a cockpit where all panels are there and work proprely. The "close-me-up-a-bit"-stage has nothing to do with controls etc. So first I wanna get the controls to work and the panels as well. After that we'll see.

    Cheers + tnx 4 posi. comments :)
