1. Default WTG

LAST EDITED ON Oct-17-02 AT 08:04AM (EDT)[p]Hi,
New to this forum and would like your opinion on the following.

I am very keen to eventually have a 180degree 5 screen set up for outside view and I have seen an example of this on the "wideview" site.

With "state of art" technology, would you consider it possible to go for a couple of high spec PCs each running 2 monitors as opposed to each monitor being run by it's own PC.

(struggling here explaining this)

Please note I am talking here about running 5 outside views with the minimum number of PCs.
My understanding is that the client PCs, for the above, would only have to process a limited amount of info and no AI traffic so basically the question, in a nutshell, is..........

Would one high spec PC running 2 monitors be as good an option as 2 lower spec PC's running individual monitors.

I would imagin that building a medium spec PC with older, tried and tested, CPU's and cards would be relatively cheap....... but would 2 of them be as good as one high spec/dual card set up.

Also which would be the cheapest WTG

PHEW !

Regards,
Martin

hey martin,
i guess the first thing is what kind of system will you have. ie:processor, video card, etc. from what ive seen and been told your best bet is to run each monitor on one pc. that will give you the very best performance. if you cant afford that you can always try to run 2 on one and see how it goes. i run spot view, cockpit view on one monitor and the gauges on the other both on one ti4600 card. good luck.

Thanks for your reply James.

Basically what I am trying to do is have a goal/target for the future so that anything I buy from now an will fit in with the final set up.

Again referring back to the wideview site he has 5 pcs running, each with one monitor. In saying that, these purpose built units only have the bare necessities to run as clients for FS2002.
i.e. they have no cd readers or sound cards, in fact they don't even have housings.

I will really have to cost things up but I just wonder if he was doing the same thing today would he have gone for a high spec unit, possibly capable of running two of the outside views or always better to stick with one pc to one monitor.

I currently have a 1300 processor with Gforce 3 ti200 and know this would be more than capable of running a client outside view to my satisfaction. I am also assuming that such, reletively dated hardware will be cheap in todays market.

Just can't decide which way to go and maintain the balance between performance and cost.

Regards,
Martin
