    Default Please help...with installation

    Hi;

    I saw X-Plane on a friends system and fell in love with it. I have downloaded demo 6.05. The install instructions say Direct X version 8 is needed to run it. I have version 7 on my system. I downloaded Direct-x version 8 from Microsoft's web site and noticed a caveat to the effect that it may not be able to be uninstalled once it is installed...that it makes a lot of registry changes, among others. I'm concerned that if I install it and have problems with other programs on my system, I'll be up the proverbial creek sans paddle. Any advice?

    My second question has to do with my graphics card. The install instructions for X-Plane imply that Open GL drivers must accompany your video card. I have a Hercules Prophet with 64 megs of ram but I can't find any documentation either on the CD or in my system info suggesting I have Open GL drivers.

    I would appreciate any helpful advice on how I can get X-Plane running on my system.

    Hank

    I may not be of much help... LOL

    DX8 is not all that good you must get DX8A+ and it will be fine.

    There is a web site that may be able to help you with the GL driver for your card I think it is www.GLsetup.com and you can get a setup for most cards. If you send me e-mail I will look for the correct website and also offer more help and chat on X-Plane.

    I love it and use 566/599 and also run 605+ in demo mode till they get more of the buggs out and then I will get then CD.

    I do lots of outer space fun with X-Plane and the free www.orbiter.com program.

    Have fun

    In theory all your games/sims should run with DirectX 8.x. Just
    get most current version. If you use nVidia video card drivers
    then you have OpenGL.
