    Default X-Plane vs other sims

I have a number of sims. A large number actually.

They each have their place. Whether FS2000, ProPilot(yuck! maybe this one doesn't have a place), F-15, USAF, IAF, USNF97, F-22 Lightning III, F/A-18, Longbow, and so on.... actually getting tired of typing the names.

X-Plane rocks. Version 5.65 is out.

You can fly through the clouds... Not a grey screen, but actual textured clouds that allow glimpses every now and then. The flight model is fantastic. You can design your own planes, get planes others have made and see how they did it. Fly in your neighborhood with your weather. Just like it is outside your house. Tell me one other sim that will let you do these things???? Granted the ground scenery is a little lacking, I admit, but I am flying to get in the air, not driving a car. I would like somebetter textures and maybe to see my town a little more modeled. If someone out there would like to take a crack at Object Maker and World Maker I'll send them a copy of the map with my house marked on it..... haha.....

Just my opinion. And on this one....... I don't think I'm wrong. Read Peter James' review here at Flightsim.com..... he knows what I am talking about!!!

Well I have to disagree. I had X-Plane 5.52 and just upgraded to 5.65. My throttle on my CH Pro flight yoke still won't work. And now my whole computer locks up after about 30 seconds after X-Plane starts. I've never had lockups before on any of my software. I do have DX8 and the newest driver for my video card. The documentation in X-Plane is very poor and I feel that I've wasted $40 on this crap. I am going back to FS2000 which runs flawless on my computer.

some people have the right to different opinions...with only one person making the thing, you can't expect it to work on every single computer. but still, thats a little harsh of a response...

    Bob:

    Go to www.x-plane.com

Write to Austin and tell him what is wrong. He'll most likely write back to you in a couple of days and give you some ideas about how to get back in business. That is the beauty of the software, the developer takes and answers email.

FS 2000 for ALL of its good points doesn't offer that level of support.

Before you give up totally, try that.

Not sure about MS sim but with all I am seeing in reference to the experience a flight sim can offer,I don't see how much more of real motion related physics could be brought into a fl sim as compared to xplane. I only recently started out with xplane9 " for ipad2 " and I don't believe it could be more realistic. I plan on checking them all out soon but flight control, surfaces to taxi and land/take off are what counts to me more than pretty graphics. I have a runway community next to my condo complex and meet the owners of all small aircraft types and they tell me xplane9 keeps them from getting rusty when unable to fly . These are serious pilots that are puttingthier stamp on xplane9 for ipad2. Ipad3 will be amazing for xplane with its quad core graphics and better A5X processor. As it is it's great though. On the golf course you can find these pilots using xplane /iPad waiting for ther turn. That's hw I found out about xplane9. / iPad...There is even a stunt pilot with an air show type plane who loves xplane9 for iPad because it is reliable. No issues and the space station maneuvers are gravy within the app. It's only what I know so far but I don't hear much of Microsoft game type sims at all. Xplane is no game.

You think anyone from 10 years ago is still following this?
    Thanks,

Awesome... this topic is soon 11 years old !

Sorry Mike, I'm not using a mobile version of X-Plane, only the desktop version.

I just wonder how it will work on an iPad 3 with a 2048 x 1536 resolution. That's just insane and much more than my 1280 x 1024 desktop monitor. What's the cooling system inside the iPad ?

    Happy flying.
