Thread: Mountain flying in the Swiss alps

  1. Default Mountain flying in the Swiss alps

This was quite a big sim weekend for me due to feeling a bit ill. One flight I took screenshots on today was from Interlaken to Sion, in Switzerland. I can thank Relax from Flightsim.com's FSX board for recommending this flight.

On the climbout of Interlaken, it would seem that you need to make an early right turn so you don't have to head up a steep valley. Apparently I didn't know this!

Interlaken behind me, the scenery is really good here. I check with a few photos, it's pretty accurate too.

Interlaken is named very appropriately - it's wedged right between two lakes.

    Interlaken to my right

Cruising on up past Reichenbach. I need to go this way and over a mountain range to drop down into the Rhone valley, where Montana and Sion are at.

I took the left path at the fork

I ended up in a wide open forest area for a bit, but I realised I had gone the wrong way, and headed left for the mountain range, which I think is called the Bernese Alps.

Now at Montana, a small town in the Rhone Valley, to the east of Sion.

    Downwind, Sion.

    Touchdown and Parking.

This really was one of the best flights I've had in a while - I might do some more simming there tomorrow if I have time.

    Hi Brocks,

Congratulations for the great flight and the attractive shots.

Interlaken has a Swiss military airport. When the army jets start against the mountain wall ahead, the adrenaline is guaranteed. In order to reach the Rhone Valley with Sion, you need to cross the Bernese Alps. Montana is a great mountain tourist resort. It’s ideally suited for skiing.

If you would like to continue your flight in this region, then you could fly to Samedan. This is close to the St. Moritz, which is the Swiss top resort. There you can meet the beautiful and rich people from all over the world.

Recently I visited your continent in real life. You can find photos on my page www.happy-art.ch

Okey Dokey Relax, I'll chec out Samedan soon :D I dunno if the Baron has quite the same performance as those Swiss Jets for going through those initial hills though!

Here is Reichenbach using Switzerland Professional. I travel there each year to visit family. You can't beat the Berner Overland area!
