    Default AI Aircraft

    Greetings ALL!!

Has anyone found a 757 or 767 that will not crash short of the
    runway upon landing?

  2. Default RE: AI Aircraft

    Hi 3Nick

First your question is sort of vague, but I realize it's your first post and if no one responds, probably your last.
Second, I'm probably not the one who is qualified to answer this, because I have never downloaded or even flown either one of those aircraft in MSFS.

Having said that, and being a firm believer that there's no such thing as a stupid question I'll attempt to at least reply to you with some of my thoughts.

The Boeing 767 is a very large aircraft and is not designed to land with a full tank (well that is). Not that it can't, but it would take an very good and experienced pilot do so. For instance, if the specifications called for an landing speed of 140 KIAS, then fully loaded, it may take as high as 160 KIAS. Look at the total weight of the aircraft empty and then check it's gross weight capability fully loaded. If it's a very high number, then it's a long range carrier, and carries a great deal of fuel.

For instance, the 747-400 has a basic operating weight of over 400,000 pounds. It's weight sitting completely empty is only a little over 60,000 lbs, just with rounded numbers that's over 6.5 times it's own weight. It can carry almost 300,500lbs of fuel alone. It's not really designed to do short hops with that kind of weight. If it were forced to land shortly after taking off, it would probably have to pass some specific tests and be looked at very closely before it took to the air agian.
Also, its maxium range is over 7,000 miles. That's about one third of the way around the world. It wouldn't make sense to run that aircraft on short hauls. If it is put into that type if use for special reasons, such as Airforce 1 they wouldn't fill it to the top when makeing short trips.

Airline passenger planes are not supposed to land with fuel in the center tank either. It's just and added safety factor which airlines adhere to.

Another possibility is a problem which is new to FS2002. Now we may create a flight, with the aircraft of our choice, start the flight at the terminal of your choice, and even choose to save the weather conditions on a day which we liked flying in.
The problem is, it's possible to forget about doing that several months ago and particularly forgeting which direction the wind was blowing the day we saved it.

I'm guilty of doing just that myself. I created a flight with real world weather this past spring, on a particularly blustery day. I have to be careful now when flying in other parts of the world, since the conditions existed at my local airport. It was much worse in other parts of the world. I found out the hard way just recently. Even though the seasons have changed the weather still remains mostly the some except for the temperture. I was testing a newly aquired BA 146-200, took off on the west caost, climbed to fl270 and was being bounced all around. I decide to try the 747-400 and it did the same thing. I then checked advanced weather, raised the wind level bar to 27000 feet and found the wind was blowing 150 knots. Surprise!!
I remember that day's weather here and remember there were terrible storms out on the northwest coast with surface winds up in the 50 and 60 mph range.

Just some thoughts on the subject. Hope you dont get too descouraged, and if you're a senior officer or airline pilot, then my most humble apoligies sir. :-)

    Enjoy and happy simming

Appreciate your response. I guess I was vague. Not having
trouble flying aircraft. Am an actual pilot. My son, who
is 5 years old, loves to watch aircraft. So I have done a
lot of AI Flightplans for him to watch aircraft land and
takeoff on the computer screen. The problem is I cannot
find either a 757 AI or a 767 AI that doesn't crash short
of the runway!!I enjoy flying the heavy's from Posky, but
their 767 goes down like an anvil when used as AI. By the
way the Posky 767 is a pretty good rendition of the real
deal, especially with John Schmacher's panel. Guess
what aircraft I left seat in for DL?

    regards, Nick

Project AI is your solution. They make all their own aircraft and design them specifically for AI use. They also have flight plans created using all real-world schedules. Currently they have BA, Air France, United, US Air, Delta (being reworked), KLM, and about 20 others. Their models aren't perfect for watching close up but you can have 30 or 40 of them at major airports with VERY little frame rate loss. http://www.projectai.com.

    Hope this helps,

    I do apologized.
If nothing else, we stired some interest and got your orginal post off the third page.:lol
Perhaps Peter has found what you're looking for.
I'm going to look into that site as well.
It would be nice to have an airport full of AI aircraft

I can see your dilemma, as it wouldn't look right having dad's
plane to fall short of the runway.

Perhaps I did touch on something, however.
The answer may be in the config files of those particular
    AI aircraft which you've added.
Who knows what landing speeds MS has configured for the AI
aircraft, but if you watch them closely, they don't exactly
make a nice looking touch down.
They come in on the nose gear.

I hope you get it sorted out.

What kind of pilot are you the FAA says you have no certificates. Even when you are a student pilot you have student in that blank. Did you take the medical and then quit? Or is this even you? Here is a screenshot.

Nick Is my middle name. Use it here to protect myself. Barth
could also be fictional. However, I have the hours, career
and present position to back up my statement. Think it is
great that you checked up on me though. Wish you worked for
the gov't so that on 9/11 we would not have had to land in
Indy instead of our intended destination!!!

    Fred,

Thanks for your help. Have a couple of days off and am working
with ProjectAI. Excellent aircraft I might add. Here is the
problem, I haven't called Dell yet, but might have to.

I have only 1200 flightplans listed that I programed myself.
Now when I try to add one, the computer says I don't have
enough free memory? Never happened before. Why now?

    Any ideas?
