RE: SHOCKING Information
Wow! Glad you're ok!
I live in Florida, the 'lightening capital of the world' (don't really know how true that is), so I get to see a ton of lightening every year.
Before my current job, I worked in a computer store as a technician, about 6 years ago. I can't begin to tell you the number of people that would come in during the days after a bad storm and complain that the expensive modem I sold them 3 weeks ago suddenly stopped working. Phone-line surge supressors weren't popular and, as a result, we made lots of money! :-lol
At any rate, ALL electronics are vulnerable to lightening strikes, and it doesn't even have to hit very close. A good power surge will "take care" of things as well.
The moral of the story? Spending an extra few dollars on a good quality surge-supressor that includes the phone line is WELL worth the money!!! I even went so far as to purchase a UPS that even gives me an audible warning for surges/drops. I was surprised at how often it went off! All the better, since I'm sure that I've saved myself from buying a lot of replacement computers, TV's, DVD's, monitors, modems, etc, etc, etc...
