Default Excellent Vans Boeing 727 - San Jose to Salt Lake City

Here are some pics from tonight's flight. I downloaded the newly released freeware Boesing 727 from Vans Aircraft CO ( http://www.vansairco.com/index.eng.php?tvac=eng ) and it turned out to be really nicely done. Lots of nice detailing in the flaps , airbrakes , leading-edge slats abd gear wells.

One great surprise was that the 'wing fold\unfold' key command made several ground vehicles drive up and position around the plane and then animate. That was neat to see!

I used the panel with filename 727KMpnl.zip (I can't recall where i downloaded it now so do a google search ) and the sound filenamed b747-200_ge.zip . The panel is nice and has cockpit views in all directions.

    Anyway , onto the pics ;

The detailing WAS nice, problem is they removed lots of it from my original. :+

Ah well, the risks one takes when uploading source files.

Are you saying that they ripped off your model ?

I don't really download many commercial planes such as this type so I wasn't aware of any similarities to something you had made.

Looks like a winner to me David, although I think I will stick with my preferred and excellent "Cantu Clipper" Have the Richard Probst panel for it. Great shots anyhow - cool AI as well !:9

No, I made my source files available at freeflight for a breif period, and freeflight's policy is:

"Many talented designers have enthusiastically joined this effort, and are generously providing the fruits of their labor in order to promote our goal. We expect that you will properly credit them for their work should you release any reworks and/or repaints of the files we provide. You are, of course, on your honor, but taking credit for another's work will preclude other talented designers from joining us, and soon defeat the purpose of this site.

Should you make improvements to another's design, we ask that you send it back to us so that all visitors to this site can benefit from your work as well! Please note that all source files have been made available with the permission of the original author. They are not to be uploaded to any other web site without the expressed permission of the author and/or Freeflight Design Shop."

I didn't get a single mention...period. Compare the two models, they remapped it and removed a lot of the special XML code (plus my original, more accurate airstairs, opening cockpit windows, cockpit detail et c. - actually they removed a lot of detail making it LESS detailed than the original by a long shot), and changed a few other things, but it's pretty obvious.

Great shots David! The landing shots look awesome!

So they used your source material Erick and created a "copy" that is less detailed...? Do I understand that correctly? Hmmm, I'm off to get your version then Erick ;)

It's a legitimate model after all:

"Oi! It's a good thing I didn't ask for removal and decided to limit my work to mere whinging!

I just looked at a wireframe of the model (wow, the trial version of ACM is kinda handy), and while a lot of features are pretty similar (in the weirdest of ways), they APPEAR to be different.

A lot of weird coincidences still remain like contours I purposely exaggerated that they did as well and cross-sections in nearly identical places and so on, but it happens.

The flap jacks and other mechanisms are very close yet modelled differently and in different places. The flap canoes are done in the same fashion but it was the easiest option so maybe they came to the same conclusions.

A lot of things on the wings were in different places entirely. The kink in the nose at the radome (which is not in any 727 plans I have) is there on both models but I suppose most keen modellers would sense this.

My conclusion is that although a lot of the shapes are very similar, it may just be very similar personal tastes as to what was made and how to go about making it. Additionally, if it were based on my source files in any part, the amount of effort that would have to go into modifying it to be this different yet similar would be somewhat astronomical.

I gave the benefit of the doubt somewhat from the beginning, but gave in to so many people telling me it was the same. Maybe I was just seeing what I wanted to see or resorting to the worst case scenario.

A lot of stuff seems to weird to be coincidence even after viewing the models in detail, but meh. Two 727 models tend to be very similar, and unless someone can find a smoking gun, I extend a very sincere apology to the staff at Vans."
