Default FORUM RULES

LAST EDITED ON Jun-14-02 AT 11:06AM (EDT)[p]Devon, I have to first apologize to you. I removed your 100 years of flight thread even though the original subject matter would have been interesting and fun. What happened in that thread is that once again it turned into a national bashing session. I realize this was NOT your intent or doing. However, as I tried to prune the crud out of that thread, so we could get back to the original topic, I just found that easily 3/4 of the posts were not appropriate. It was just easier to remove the whole thing.

With that said, you have decided to take the stance that you were somehow mistreated by the moderators here in the past. You continue to think that the boundaries of this forum are completely undefined. I agree we have not set forth explicit guidelines for this forum, but we have not felt it necessary up to this point. We have intentionally left this forum to itself and have not enforced many rules here. Although it appears to be getting a bit out of hand.

Therefore we will spell this out a little bit clearer for ALL:

[lu][li]No profanity--including b**tch, cr**[/li]
[li]No personal attacks[/li]
[li]No pornography[/li]
[li]No solicitation to obtain software illegally[/li]
[li]No spamming[/li]
[li]With regard to EVERYTHING else, this is the measuring stick we use--imagine yourself being invited into OUR home. We have invited guests from around the world to join in. Each of these guests come from different sociological, geographical, political, financial, and religious backgrounds. We will supply the place in which to gather, but please understand that all of the guests here are our friends. If one comes in here and insults our other guests, pick fights, is rude, or generally disrupts the flow of our gathering, they will be asked to tone it down or leave. The rest of us just want to converse. However, this does not mean that our guests can't debate like adults (i.e. with respect and thoughtfulness). This also does not mean that our guests have to agree on everything, but again just act like an adult that has been invited into someone else's home!
[/lu]

Devon, this post is not specifically directed to you and, in fact, your thread noted above could certainly be reposted sometime in the future.

However, although we want to encourage the discussion, we won't allow this to turn into a free-for-all. :-)

That maximum is 450 pixels wide by 120 pixels high, and not to exceed 25k. Your compliance is appreciated.

And, just so that all are aware, I fully concur with what Jeff has stated. Although it is sometimes difficult for we moderators to stay on top of things, (there are many posts that we must read on a daily basis, and even sometimes hourly basis), we do also appreciate it when the "Alert" button is used to bring our attention to disturbing or inappropriate posts.

- To the Users....

For the record, I was the one who punched the 'Alert' this time due to an extremely disgusting remark made by one of the other users.

I had actually responded in kind and decided in retrospect that I was in the wrong to sink to that level. I then alerted the moderators to remove my post.

The user in question knows who he is. I would mention to this individual that he has single handedly spoiled the conversation for everyone else. I'm starting to see why Darrell and Jeff have been busy lately; largely due to low-brow remarks of certain individuals.

I support discussion. I even support arguments backed up with valid points...and I even admit that conversation does not always keep in topic. But I stand with the moderators when it comes to personal and crude comments such as direct explicit content.

That's why we have innuendo, folks. We don't need to hear all the nasty details. A cheeky comment is generally accepted and is far more entertaining since it requires intelligence whereas a revolting insult is a sign of weakness and stupidity.

I'm a great advocate for freedom of expression.
Don't be afraid to argue your point, but keep the discussion civillzed. Even I know when to draw the line. You should too.

For what it is worth, I agree with all the above.

Unfortunatley there are one or two individuals who spoil a good thread and whilst they may get a kick from causing a thread to be deleted it causes annoyance to others.

The one word that seems to be missing from some posts these days is 'respect'.

That's it - soap box put away for another day.
