    travisnutley - good day;

    I downloaded the 2 huge files

    Ok - well done - you will see when you have installed those file correctly - it will be well worth the effort!!

    Those 2 huge files are autoinstallers for Alaska 38.2 m terrain - and the are both set to install those bgl file for the alaska mesh into the:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2002\ADDON SCENERY\SCENERY

    as the scenery was designed just before fs2004 was about to be released - - do not panic - alaska works perfectly well in fs2004 also. In FS2002 - that is all you need to do - just run the autoinstall and make sure the destination path of addon scenery\scenery folder is correct - and you are done with installation - the bgl files will be directed into the scenery addon\scenery folder - wich should be already an active scenery folder by default - and if it is not active - simply activate it from the scenery library.

    =====================================================
    INSTALL IN FS2004 - OF FSFreeware 38.2 m Alaska - autoinstallation files:

    The simplest method is to simply add the bgl files you download from Mapserver - or any terrain mesh - into the scenery\BASE\scenery folder -

    the path to the scenery\BASE\scenery folder will be:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\BASE\Scenery

    Make sure that the scenery\Base\scenery path of your fs9 is as above - or if not change accordingly to your system settings - and replace the destination path for the bgl file installat in the autoinstallation program.

    that will work.

    =============================================

    Method 2 - more elegant -!

    create a new folder into the main scenery folder of FS2004 and called as you like - for example - alaska_38

    inside the alaska_38 folder create a subfolder called 'scenery'

    on Alaska autoinstall program when requested destination path for bgl file installation - change it to:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\alaska_38\scenery

    Start your simulator

    go to the scenery library

    add the 'alaska_38' folder into the library

    ok to confirm changes to the scenery library

    exit simulator

    re-start simulator

    and you are done.

    Thanks guys, and a big thanks to Raimondo. I'm actually heading to work right now, so I don't have time to try it yet, but thanks for the info. I'll be back in a bit to let you know how it goes. Thanks again and expect a great screenshot for your effort! :) :)

    In addition to the above approaches, I just downloaded this same mesh this week and here's what I did:

    -in FS9/AddonScenery I created a new folder 'Alaska'
    -within that folder I created a folder called 'scenery'
    -THEN, I ran the installations for those two files, and pointed to the Alaska/Scenery folder.

    Make sure at the point where you're about to click install that the Alaska/scenery folder is selected. I had a problem where the filename was too long for one prompt box, which you may have had too.

    Once you do all of this, my personal recommendation is to turn your Display settings for Terrain mesh complexity to 100%.

    Enjoy!

    Edit: Oh, don't forget to add the Alaska area in your FS Scenery settings, then exit FS and restart! :)

  9. Default Alaska with FSFreeware mesh...

    Well, I installed the FSFreeware mesh for ALaska, but don't think it worked...I downloaded the 2 huge files and installed them both. Perhaps this is the wrong place for this post, but anybody have any idea why it's not working? I've tried 2 or 3 other Alaska meshes and none seem to work. Thanks all and have a great day!
