Thread: Tahiti-Rarotonga on a Convair 580

    Default Tahiti-Rarotonga on a Convair 580

Good morning, yesterday I had a very enjoyable flight on a Convair 580, of Air Pacifica Airlines – Connexions Polynesia division.
I took off from Tahiti-Faa airport around 11:30 a.m., local time, after 5 minutes I was on the beautiful island of Moorea, wich looks like a heart. Wind was at 16-25 knots on departure and enoroute it was at 13-15 kt.
I cruised at 10,000 feet of altitude, at 220 kias of speed
I passed near the islands of Huaine and Raiatea, and, ‘cause the visibility of no more than 15 miles I wasn’t able to see Bora Bora.
After 2 hours and half of flight I saw my destination: the island of Rarotonga, in the Cook Islands.
It was a quite easy approach with a light tail wind of 7 knots, wich explain because it was been a long landing but without problem because the runway of Rarotonga airport is long.
My Convair was very fiable and easy to land.

There is no flap problem Riccardo. He was just saying that they are large (which they are on the real plane).

Also, do me a couple of favors -

    1) Get the CV-580 panel that goes with the model. It's available here - www.calclassic.com. It makes the model much more realistic to fly. I can garuntee you that whatever panel you have with it now will not work true to the real plane.

    2) NEVER feather the props on shutdown. FS can't simulate it too well, but you can't start the engine with the props feathered, and you can't unfeather the props with the engine stopped (you have to get it turning using the GTC or bleed air from the other engine first and then unfeather it) and it's not good to run the engine without having it actually lit for very long because it's not getting the proper lubrication.

I only ask this because I work for a company that operates the CV-580 and it saddens me to see people not read the manual that comes with the plane and to take screenshots that show the plane in situations that it should never be in.

    Thanks!
