Thread: Out on Patrol : AAR : 8 x images

  1. Default Out on Patrol : AAR : 8 x images

Out on patrol, our flight of 3 x ME109G , when out of the sun we were bounced.

    Nasty stuff.

One day you're flying along, listening to Lili Marlene...

    http://www.flightsim.com/dcforum/Use...9676ee4036.jpg
and the next minute your wingman screams out... a garbled radio transmission... then silence as his plane is sliced in half.

There ! Coming out of the sun. Ahh, there's two of them on my tail. Spitfires !

A quick chop of the throttle and a half roll, and they zoom past me, their speed carrying them forward and beyond. A quick kick of the rudder to the left, and there is the hunter, now the hunted.

A deadly turning game begins, but everytime I pull the nose up to give him enough lead, the creaks, groans and shudders lets me know I'm on the edge of the envelope. But slowly I'm able to keep turning inside him.

A check of my gun camera film shows the lead, and the Spitfire moments away from destruction.

The gun camera film shows the result of a brief burst at close range.

    And down he goes.

Not a good sortie, with 1 x kill and 1 x loss to the squadron.

FYI, this was based on an episode by Luftwaffe pilot Heinz Knoke, from his book "I flew for the Fuhrer".

    Makes for sobering reading.

    Thanks.

I just want to figure out a way to fly without the cockpit view, then I could make some really interesting gun camera videos ! But the one down side of IL2 is the muzzle flash fromthe twins mounted on the nose - they're huge ! - and simply block out any forward view

    :-(

Oh well, back to the drawing board...

Yes, landing on pitching decks will certainly add some challenge to the flying sim... :-)

Thanks. That's the joy of IL2.

You can play back your action after it's finished, and view any a/c from any angle. So it looks interesting seeing the attacking a/c and how they got YOU ! haha..
