    Default Trim control in FS2k2

    Hi,
Is there anyone out there that may be able to offer me some help when using the trim control in FS2k2.
I find it very difficult to trim any aircraft without the VSI oscillating erratically while trying to trim!! As well as that when I do manage to trim to the correct VSI indication, the whole exercise can take me up to 3-4 minutes!!! From my limited experience so far in real world flying ( 4 hours!!), trimming is a very quick and simple exercise. I believe this is so one can "feel" the pressure reducing on the yolk while trimming. I don't have a force feedback joystick, and if I purchased one , would it simulate the correct pressure to help in trimming? Or is there any software add-on available to help here.
    Thank you all....
    Barry

I dont have real world ex, but I sim using my MS SW FFB joystick. I can tell you that trimming is a very simple exercise using this joystick. While trimming you can "feel" the yoke pressure easing up and you will be ready for hands off flying. I suggest you to purchase this awesome stick to experience trim forces..

    Hope this helps..

    Hello,

I too have had the problem with trimming. With the FF Stick it really got better, but I also reduced the repeat rate of the assigned buttons (I guess unde "Settings-> Assignments). Now it takes a little bit longer to move the trim wheel, but it's easier to find the right position without "overshooting" it.

    May be it helps

    Bye

The problems that you have with trimming are mostly a result of the crappy FDEs on the default aircraft. Most higher quality 3rd party aircraft do not have these problems.

The trim is supposed to be that slow. Have you ever seen a 727 go from flight trim to zero trim? That's a good few seconds, and you should see the wheels whip around!

You've had a shroud over your eyes removing the trim realism until now. It's just like the autopilot.

1.) We design for reality, not for idealism.
Thus, you will not see virtual cabins on our aircraft. You can not see inside the real thing anyway, unless you are looking into the sun. You will find virtual cockpits but they will not be visible from outside for the same reason.
2.) We design for people with real computers. Thusly, we will not waste polygons on superfluous parts. We will use a texture when there is no noticeable difference between it and a group of performance wasting parts. We will model our aircraft efficiently. If you do not like it, too bad.
3.) We will give you the latest features, but we WILL NOT sacrifice visual accuracy to implement them. Accuracy comes before eye candy.[/font size]

The trim on the flight sim is set up to move quickly if you hold or rapidly press the desired trim button. Pessing it slowly allows for finer trimming.

Also on your note you mentioned watching the VSI for trimming. A word from a experience pilot and flight instructor, simply DON'T.
Trimming in the real world is done by holding the desired attitude and then trimming off the pressure to maintain that attitude hands off the controls, chasing the VSI is a never ending battle as this instrument can have as much as 7 seconds of lag. In IFR flight the attitude indicator is used to substitute this, and is then only cross referenced to the altimeter for accuracy. The VSI is a rate indicator not a trend indicator. Next time you level off in flight sim note that the altimiter remains constant while the VSI may still be showing an indication. And remember trim while looking outside at the attitude. :)

    Cheers
