Default Anyone else unimpressed with GeForce3?

With the GeForce 3 I get strange artifacts near text w/ Anti-Aliasing enabled and also trees and such look really blocky and not complete... Anyone else have this problem? Also when nearing an airport it looks very pixelated and refreshes very step-ladder-y (that's the best I can describe it.)

I've wriiten both NVIDIA and Visiontek about this problem, and I suggest you do the same.

Any one else?

Hercules GF3 Prophet III Ti200 here: Works absolutely as advertised. No reason to write to anyone, except in praise for a rock-solid performer with superb overclocking capabilities.

The anti-aliasing artifacts are driver and system-dependent. Try different/newer drivers. The 21.81's did it, the 27.20's don't...

Also, try using GeForce Tweaker from www.guru3d.com and utilise the anisotropic setting adjustment - the artifacts can be dialled out.

As it relates to FS2002, I am absolutely unimpressed with my ASUS v8200 geforce3 in this particular system.

To make a long story short, my framerates in MSFS2002 and MSTS suck! I had better FS2002 framerates with my old Riva TNT2 m64, and I'm thinking of putting that card back in and abandoning this geforce3......

To make this story even stranger, the geforce3 outscores the TNT2 by more than triple the 3dmarks (3500 vs 700 approximately)..

But.... I could get better performance in FS2002 with higher slider settings with the TNT2 than the geforce3.......
So, I essentially spent $600 (canadian) on a downgrade in FS2002 performance.....

And no, it doesn't seem to make any difference what drivers I use.....

The 23.11 drivers did help this a little though (from the 21.83). No pixelating, no abnormal trees, just 30-70fps with all sliders maxed:D.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-01-02 AT 04:34PM (EDT)[p]I wasn't that impressed with the performance my V8200 gave on FS2K2 and thought "What a gyp." Fact is though, the GF3 rocks. Try playing another game, say Return to Castle Wolfenstein (about the only other game I've tried on my system, and even then just a demo disk from PC Gamer mag) and crank the settings up to 1600x1200x32 and see how absolutely stunning and liquid-smooth the graphics are, pointing to big, big framerates.

IMHO, the problem isn't the GF3, it's FS2K2 and DirectX and their graphics engines and/or the loads FS2K2 places on the CPU and memory bandwidth.

After seeing RTCW run so well, returning to FS2K2 is a bit of a letdown. My Dreamfleet 737-400 is a bit of a slideshow if I have the detail settings higher than 60%: this isn't the graphics card (RTCW proves this)...it's how much the CPU is doing with the scenery mesh, the aircraft model, the panel, the FMC (in the DF plane) etc etc instead of sending what to draw to the graphics card.

My sys: PIII-800/640M RAM/W98/V8200 GF3 64M/SB Live!

Not sure what could be causing the winter trees to be washed out in the sky... also everything (like Autogen scenery, buildings, and airports) refreshes with this ladder like grainyness and I can't stand it. I'll give the 27.20 drivers a try, but when I installed 27.00's my panels would blur... I suspect this has been taken care of? As stated all other games work flawlessly, I'm not unimpressed with the card itself, but with its performance and graphics quality in FS2002, the ATI Rage I used to have looked IMO better once I tweaked out the bugs in that.

I used to own a Hercules GF3 but I had no end of trouble with it the fps were good when it was working but after about 10 mins I would get that very famous blue screen of death so i took it back to the shop and purchased the MSI GF2-ti which i find to be a very powerful card with many features and the graphics are very very smooth, performance wise i have only a couple of fps lower than the GF3

I don't have any problems with my GF3.
You may want to un-tick the AA box in FS2002, go to the GF3 settings in display and set a manual setting for AA through the GF3 drivers.

Just in case,

Start MSFS and un-tick AA in display quit and follow this.

Right click on the desktop and choose Properties.
Go to the settings tab and select advanced.
Go to the GeForce3 tab and select additional properties
Tick the manually select the antialiasing button and select the the AA you want in the sim.

Ignore it, it will go away. :P
