Default Why is ATC flying me directly into a Mountain?

Just recently I was flying from Hammerfest to Sorkjosen and when I was approaching Sorkjosen I was told to turn to a heading of 260. After doing so I was heading straight into a mountain!! I kept going on this heading (hoping they would have me turn in the last second) until finally I had to make a steep turn. Post this, they kept telling me to turn back 260 constantly until they cancelled my IFR??????

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

That's just the way ATC is in FS, at least for now. It's not very smart at all. Some people claim that they've been vectored around terrain, but I think it was a coincidence. The only thing ATC does once you're airborne is call out traffic (no vectors around it) and provide vectors to the final approach fix.

I haven't had any luck flying in mountains. I just exited FS2002 after having ATC vector me into mountains in overcast following ATC's "vectors" approaching KSLC (Salt Lake City, UT) for ILS 34R, descending through 8800' for 6200' to intercept the ILS. Anybody familiar with SLC knows that there are moutains reaching to 13,000 feet nearby, and ATC wanted me to get a GOOD view of them! I guess I'll go back to cancelling IFR and going VFR using published approaches. At least then I'll keep from makin' a smokin' hole!

My favorite is turn left 050...turn right 090...turn left 050...turn right 090

You can request a visual approach shortly after you contact the airports tower. All they do is have you report the runway is in site. You can do this with good vis or bad. If it is bad than do it any way and follow the charts. It's not like the FAA will fine you. By requesting a visual approach this will not cancel your IFR plan and it makes it so you will not have to go through the menu to choose the airport that you are looking at landing at. Try it.
