Thread: Addit Pro for Flight Simulator 2002

1. Default Addit Pro for Flight Simulator 2002

This sounded like a good program to help someone with "Add-ons".
The program Stated it was "shareware" and the trial period was 30 days. I have used it to install a scenery update..and 4 aircraft.

I first used the program on the 17th. It is now the 20th and I get a message telling me in order to use the program again I "Must remove one "add-on" to continue to evaluate OR register NOW."

Talk about BS!!

First of all, I know there are people who would use a program such as this at the "fastest possible speed" until the last day then trash it to keep from shelling out $19.95. I understand that.

I also understand developers want to get paid for their work. No problem there either.

What I Don't understand is why a developer would state "Ya got 30 days to make up your mind." Then have the program written in such a way that in 3 days.....it begins the "giveth...yet taketh away" mode.

Why not just say UP FRONT.....use this 6 times OR "X" hours to decide?

What we have here is like the used car warranty...."30 minutes or 30 miles" which ever comes first!

Sad part is the program seemed to have merit :-(

I think I'll wait on someone to produce one that's more "up front" on their evaluation statement..

That's pretty pathetic. I installed it yesterday. Thanks for the warning.

I decided many years ago to not pay for any software that pulls a stunt like that. Sure, bring up a box to remind you, fair enough, but a stunt like that?

They sure won't be getting my money now. A pathetic attempt to get you to register, they just lost a sale here.

I'm a programmer myself. Everything I've done I've released for free into the wild. I'm growing weary of this "ME ME ME! GIMME MONEY" ethic when some hack strings together 3 lines in Visual Basic.

Screw it, I'll go back to tweaking FS in the old fashioned way.

Use FlightZip 2000. It is freeware and easily lets you change panels and sounds. It's all I need when coupled with the the FS editor.

I have enjoyed this program for some time now, it works well for me. The demo limit is the number of add-ons. The time limit is as stated.

I've used several versions of this program over the years. I
don't think Joe Stearns is in the business of screwing his
customers. Read the documentation closely. I believe it
specifies x number of installations or 30 days whichever comes
first. That's a reasonable trial period to determine whether
or not you like the program and want to buy it. And, I believe
it is well worth the $$.

I read the documentation again...both the "read me and register" texts. Then I read the "details" from the splash screen when you start the program. I also went to the site and read the ELUA text.

I could cut and paste each time the "Try this program for 30 days" is mentioned, but why waste space. There was NO mention I could find where it was stated after (X) number of add-ons you must register OR "try it for 3 days" ( the number of days I had used it ) before the "take away to add" feature becomes active.

Perhaps someone could point that portion of the details out to me? If I missed it I will stand corrected.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-21-02 AT 10:28AM (EDT)[p]I think if you have used it to install one scenery and 5 aircraft, then you can make your own mind up ??? - how many do you NEED to install to decide....

the BS is not from the authors side me thinks.... :-roll

some people !.

what ever you may want, the program is SHAREWARE .... I think it is quite sensible to put a limit on the number of times you use it.. 5 is plenty of times to evaluate it.

buy it - or remove it.. if you are not happy, contact the author - the mail is clearly listed in the docs.

Just dont go blasting something out of hand that has been available since 1998 and well respected.

If you mention to the author that YOU think the number of installs limit is low or not stated, then I am sure you will get a satisfactory reply instead of publically crying BS !

Good point, Cap'n. I've always received quick responses from
Joe when there's a problem. That's the best way to get it
resolved.

Past correspondence with Joe Stearn to answer or rectify operational problems (mine) have always been answered with 24 hours. I have used Addit Pro since its inception and also find it a valuable tool and his support has been excellent.

Blast something out of hand? You're kidding right? LOL

Refer to my original post please...

"understand developers want to get paid"
"understand some would use as fast as possible then not pay"
"program seemed to have merit"

Follow up post:

"have read AGAIN the readme/register/ELUA/ and details from the splash screen"

I don't see anything that would indicate "Blasting". What I have posted here is that the program makes NO mention of the "take something away to add something" feature after (X) number of tries.. ONLY that the program states ( try this for 30 days then register to continue or remove). Which doesn't seem to be the case in this instance.

If I missed the " take something away to add something " disclaimer show me where it was......
