Default Long Time Reader, First Time Poster, And I need HELP

    Hi,
I've been reading the forums here for a long time, and I've now registered, as I need serious help. To make a long story short, I upgraded from an old Celeron 433 with an ATI All In Wonder 128 (FS2k2 worked, but slowly) to a new Celeron 1.1 Ghz with the same video card. When FS2k2 gave me repeated error "Watson" screens, about bad hardware being detected, along with display errors, I updated my drivers, reformatted, tried different installs, etc. In other words, I did everything short of going crazy. After a long time with MS Tech Support, I decided to upgrade my video card to a GF2 MX 400 64MB (PCI, as my new mobo has no AGP slots). I still got the same error. I've tried all the drivers, including the 12.41, 21.83, and 23.11.(At this point, I've stuck with the 12.41s, as they seem to work with my other sims) MS has even sent me replacement CDs, as we at one point thought that this was the problem. This somewhat worked, as FS2k2 crashed, only several minutes after the usual time, still citing the same error. I've moved onto reinstalling some of my 20-odd other sims since my reformat, (which work, BTW) but I upgraded because of FS2k2, and it would be a real shame if it didn't work on my new rig. So I've come here for advice. I do need it, badly. Just to recap, my specs are:

    Celeron 1.1Ghz
    256MB RAM
    Visiontek GeForce2 MX400 64MB

    Thanks in advance,

If you upgraded from a 433 MHz system, that motherboard is pretty old and may have driver/compatibly problems with FS2K2. I would get a current motherboard for starts, especially since you said your motherboard doesn't support AGP.

W98 SE, and I upgraded the mobo when I upgraded the processor (It's an MSI, can't remember the model# off the top of my head).

Check to see if there is a conflict between your soundcard and your video card. Are they on the same IRQ? Mine are and they work just fine, but on some systems it can be a problem. Also make sure that all of your previous video drivers are uninstalled completely, if you have a video chipset (ex. intel 810), you may have to go as far as diconnecting it, but, disabling it in the Control Panel- System-Properties area should do the trick. Go to www.guru3d.com for further help.
Hope something here works for ya'

I've disabled the onboard graphics, and I'll check out the IRQ situation. Actually, if it helps, in Windows, the sound card skips and stutters every once in a while (usually on startup), sometimes more than others.

    Thanks,

How can you tell if you have on board graphics and how do you disable them. My Compaq P4 system shipped with a GeForce2MX so I wouldn't suppose there are on board graphics that would cause a conflict but just checking.
    Thanks

It took me 6 months of asking advice at PC World before somebody finally told me how to disable on-board graphics. My machine is 2 years old and came with a 3dfx Voodoo 8mb chip on-board, although I didn't know it was on-board at the time of purchase.

I was getting into FS2000 and knew I would want to upgrade, but then found there wasn't an AGP slot either.

I fitted a Voodoo 5500 PCI (64mb) but I was getting error messages saying that 2 graphics cards can't be used.

Anyway, the simple way to do it is in device manager, select the one you want to disable and check 'Disable in this hardware profile'

Dead easy, but by the time I discovered how to do it, my card was a bit outdated!!

    Good card though.

Tony, a video card that gives you the troublefree performance you need to do the job at hand should not be considered outdated! The DFX 5500 VooDoo is an outstanding card that handles FS2K2 with aplomb and you need not feel bad about it. It's just too bad 3DFX couldn't get their act together quicker because their 6500 was (and for the one or two out in the world today, still is, a killer video card). Just read the posts of the users with newer cards that are having teething problems yet.

Enjoy it for a few more years. I am.

How do I check the IRQ? What does it signify whether they are identical or different, and do you think this is the problem? Finally, could changing this result in any other problems or problems with my other sims?

    Thanks,
