Thread: Can't hear ATC from my L-39????

Default Can't hear ATC from my L-39????

I've recently started flying Captain Simulation's L-39 trainer for FS2002, and I'm having trouble with the ATC. I can almost never hear any ATC transmissions when I'm in this aircraft, although I hear them in all others. I thought maybe I wasn't turning on the radios, but I checked that and they seem to be working and tuning when I choose an option from the ATC menu. Anyone else had this problem --- and more importantly, solved it? I'd like to get it working 'cause this is an absolutely fab add-on other than this annoyance.

    thanks,

Allright, this is the last bump and then I'll take my problems elsewhere. I was just hoping someone else had this prob and solved it... or didn't have it and would let me know their setup.

    thanks,

    Hi Bill,

I too just starting playing with that L-39 and have had similar problems. When I start with a cold cockpit and try to power everthing up, I am unable to hear ATC. However, if I already have another aircraft powered up and I switch to the L-39, ATC seems to work just fine. Maybe we just haven't found the right switch for the audio.

Now a question for you: I have a problem trying to start this airplane. I have followed the checklist provided to no avail. After switching on the battery and the engine switch, I push the turbo button and can hear it spool up; after I get the yellow light on the annunciator panel, I push the starter button which does not seem to do anything (except click). The engine will not start. After a few seconds the turbo/engine spools down. Any idea what I might be doing wrong here?

This is definately a complicated aircraft that would be much easier to understand if the panel markings were in english.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Jetdemon,

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to try your suggestion of a "hot start" right now and see if I can't get ATC working. After a lot of experimentation, I did find the solution to the problem that you mention about starting up. If you're like me, you tried to actually use your throttle in the startup routine. For some reason, this craft just won't work that way. To get it to start, follow the exact procedure that you've been using, but instead of using the throttle just set it at idle. Then use the "ctrl-shift-f1" combo to set it to idle cutoff. Then click turbo, let it spool up, and when the yellow turbo light is lit, click the engine start button. Immediately after that, set it to idle by pressing "ctrl-shift-f4". It should start up just fine. For some reason, it isn't possible to use just your throttle for the startup; you have to use the throttle key combos as well. Go figure. Good luck, and let me know if it gives you any heat! BTW, the above instructions assume you're running FS2002 -- but why would you be in this forum if you weren't? ;-)

    Bill:

Thanks for your help. However, I followed your instructions and still have the same problem. I am following the checklist to a "t" and still can't get this thing started. Thanks...

    JetDemon,

I tried your suggestion about the ATC and got it working just fine. It's annoying though that I must choose between a realistic startup procedure and having working radios. I hope Captain Simulations figure out this problem in the future.

Now, for your problems; can you post your full startup procedure here so I can try and replicate? Maybe something is being missed. Also, I assume you're flying the L-39za light attack aircraft that was ported to FS2002, and not the original TLK-39c trainer. Is that right? If so, I'm sure we can get it working.

    thx,
    Bill Womack

    Hey Bill,

Thanks for offering to help me again. I am not at home right now, and don't have FS available to me here. Tommorow, I will post exactly what I am doing to try to start this bird. And yes, I am using the 2002 model. Thanks again.
