    Default Air Combat

A few shots form Strike Fighters Project 1, slightly edited to make them look more '60s-like ;-) I wish the developers had thought on a Vietnam scenario (which would have been much more realistic and in context) instead of a ficticious country "somewhere in the Middle East", as they say. If anyone knows of a 'Nam terrain add-on please let me know! Ok, enough is enough, here are the shots:

A flight of two F-4 Phantoms - flight leader callsign 'Gunslinger 1-1' - on a CAP (Combat Air Patrol). Suddenly, their radars pick up some fighter activity...
    - Gunslinger 1-1, this is 1-2, I have some activity on the scopes, 12 O'Clock, Angels 20!
    - I see them, bandits in sight!

Suddenly, a pair of MiG15 'Frescos' come into view. The MiG15 is small, very agile but it's only armed with guns. Our air-to-air missiles should give us the advantage...

One of them makes a tight turn, indicating hostile intentions.
    - 1-2, this is 1-1, cover me, engaging bandits now!
My wingman chases the second MiG. After 30 long seconds, I manage to put him right in front of me. Then I switch for short range heat-seeking missiles...

"This is 1, I got him in sight, switching to missiles, I'm taking him down!"
The seeker head uncages and begins tracking its target. I get a good tone...

Fire! The missile leaves the rail and homes into the MiG. It's too late for him to make any moves... Nevertheless, I keep tracking the MiG: missiles do not always hit the target...

But this one does! A direct hit! The MiG falls down in a ball of fire. My wingman calls back and claims that the second MiG is on the run.
    - Let him go, for now. Let's get back home...
Jet combat is not what it used to be...

I hope you enjoyed them. I have a question regarding the first update: when I try to install it it gives me an error, I cannot patch the original game with the new Service Pack 1, has anyone had this problem? If so, please tell me how to solve it. Thanks in advance!

Oh, yes, as a bonus here are some shots of what I'm playing the most lately... Check them out! ;-)

Thanks, Morgan, I apreciate your kind words. SFP1 is a nice sim; although I expected it to be much more realistic (that disappointed me at first a bit) it's quite a lot of fun, I'm already looking for mods and add-ons ;-)

Thanks Jan! Air combat changed from the day guns went out (almost) and missiles came in. Although I must say, guns are still carried in modern fighters for a reason: you can run out of missiles and still have enough ammo in your guns to carry on with the fight: in the Yom Kippur War, most of the Syrian and Egyptian fighters that were shot down by Israeli pilots were gunned down, no missiles used ;-)

Edit: other reasons for carrying a gun: a gun is an all-aspect weapon, it's jam-proof (unless it gets actually physically damaged) and at really close dogfight it can be used with great accuracy where a missile cannot be employed. Well, what am I talking about, I highlight the benefits of guns in aerial dogfight and here I am, blasting the hell out of a MiG15 with a Sidewinder :-lol

Wise comment a about the lady, I have seen her kick the ##### out of bigger, heavily armed bodyguards, bedouins, mummies and evil creatures from hell :-lol

Oh, yes, the hand: it appears whenever you're near an item you can pick up (say, ammo clips, health packs or special items) or a button, switch, lever or environment feature you can activate or interact with. I must have been near an item, so the hand appeared :-)
