    Default Rocky Mountains *Real Pics

Last week I flew to Kelowna, BC to get some mountain flying training and I took some pics along the way. We were flying the Cessna 182 and for the most part we flew through the published VFR routes except on the way back when we climbed to 9500 feet and went above some mountains. Enjoy.

    Those mountains are AMAZING!!!!!

I have some mountains back east that I can fly around (or I'll be able to when I get my PPL, and some mountain training ;-) ), but they're nothing like those!

Hello, thank you for the compliments. It certainly was a trip that I won't forget. It was turbulant as we approached the mountains but soon as we got into them it got smoother with the odd bump.
As nice as they are, flying in the mountains certainly is dangerous. Since we were always flying on the sunny side of the mountain valley at times we had updrafts to almost 2000 feet per minute, wouldn't want to experience a downdraft of that magnitude. Here's a picture of a wall of rain blocking our VFR route which forced us to divert down a different valley.
