Black Hawk Down - a movie by me!

WARNING: Extremely LONG (but worthy, in my humble opinion) post ;-)

I don't know what's with me and movies with helos! :-) I saw this movie some days ago and, having done a post about "Apocalypse Now" (even featuring Robert Duvall if you remember :-lol) the idea of making something about "Black Hawk Down" came to my mind. So, I said "why not?" and decided to go for it. The problem was that, unlike my previous post where almost every shot had undergone through heavy editing (and threfore, limiting the ammount of shots I could post) for this one I had all the resources available, so you'll find out about 30 shots selected from 50 originals selected from 80 taken, so you'll see, I had to pick up the best looking ones and still guarantee the continuation of the storyline. I know, it's not a "movie", but given the limitations of a screenshot forum, what do you say if I provide the visuals and you imagine the sound effects and all? I know, I won't be getting an Oscar for "best sound editing" :-lol Anyway, please sit back... wait for the whole page to load... keep waiting for the whole page to load... open a new window and check other things... keep waiting and when it's done, ENJOY! Somalia, 1993. The United Nations, in an attempt to bring external aid to the country - devastated by poverty, war and starvation - begin humanitarian missions for delivering medical supplies, basic needs equipment and food for the needed crowds of local people, for years suffering by internal disputes among tribal clans. There's no central government: chaos has taken over the nation. Stronger, heavily armed groups of militians, under the lead of powerful warlords, oftenly attack UN peacekeeping convoys and personnel and steal the supplies, in order to sell them in the Black Market. Crimes against civilian population remain unpunished; there's no law but the strongest one's law. To prevent further interruptions to the humanitarian missions, several foreign peacekeeping forces are deployed into Somalia. The US Rangers and Special Operations Delta are among the finest, elite units in the area. For months they have been guarding supply convoys and making arrests of suspects involved in several crimes, including genocide. A local clan, the Habr Gedir and his leader, the feared warlord Mohammed Farrah Aidid are responsible for almost every attack upon UN or foreing peacekeeping forces. The Central Command has decided to perform a heavy strike on the Habr Gedir leadership, as internal informants have revealed a meeting deep inside the capital city of Mogadishu where two of the highest-ranking Habr Gedir leaders, close to Aidid, are expected to attend. CetCom has developed an operation for their arrest, involving airborne deployment and joint operations between Delta and 75th Ranger operatives. The day, October 3, 1993.

*** US Forces Base of Operations ***

- All right everyone, listen up. We've just confirmed the location of the two high-ranking Habr Gedir leaders, so let's review the concept of operation. Members of the 75th Ranger will be inserted by MH-60 Black Hawks in and around the area of the target building to secure a perimeter. Delta Operatives will be deployed directly into the target building where they will perform the arrest. At the same time, MH-60s and MH-6 Littlebirds will provide air cover for our troops. A convoy will arrive to load the prisoners and get the hell out of there. If all goes as planned we'll be back here in no-time.
- A question, sir, what are the rules of engagement?
- Only fire if fired upon, avoid civilian casualties. The target building is within the Bakara Market sector: must be very busy today with loads of unarmed civilians, so check your targets twice, only shoot at bad guys with guns.

- Threats expected?
- Habr Gedir militians with light weapons, AK47s and stuff. Avoid technicals (vehicles) and keep an eye for RPGs. The insertion will be fast, so we hope to get out of there before the Somalies could reorganize. The target building is near the old Olympic Hotel, you shouldn't have problems finding it out. All right, men, mind your aircraft positions!
