It wouldn't happen to be that the aircraft looks like it is sliding relative to the ground when in the air? when viewing the airport from chase view it looks as if the ground is sliding under the airport. I think this is happening because you have reached the end of the simulated world. FSK2k world is flat not round so you can't really go towards the north pole, I believe you end up sliding along the edge of the game, still carrying forward momentum, just sliding.. I could be wrong... perhaps someone else has better explanation?

I can't get further north that 88° - that was by SLEWING it there!! If you fly - you can't do it. :(
Microsoft make reference to FS2002 having issues once you get close to either polar region in the documentation.
Speculations is that the FS2002 world is not actually modelled on a sphere and a bit of the "anti Christopher Columbus", i'e. edge of the world, effect is coming into play.
Don't blame me for this remark - I read it elsewere!! LOL

Is Microsoft really so powerful that they can change the world from round to flat? :-)

I also noted an interesting effect with the Aurora. After i took off from Alert, The aurora started appearing below me as well as above as if in a reflection. It was like something out of 2001 a Space Odyssey.

The aurora annoys me too, but for other reasons. i live in the south of Sweden so I usually fly from Kastrup(EKCH) or Sturup(ESMS) and we NEVER get auroras down here, auroras occurs 1500 km north from here. MS needs to get some lessons in geography, hehe.
Sure you can, I have flown and slewed to 89 degrees 30 minutes, that is where the FS world ends. It was this way in fs2k also, not sure about earlier versions.
As for the sliding issue near the poles, the big problem is that it isn't just near the poles. The problem starts above 70 degrees latitude, and gets worse as you fly further towards the extreme north/south.
The sliding effect also is present if you taxi at airports in this area, scenery such as taxiways, tarmac, and the runways will appear to disappear in front of you.
This issue is noted in the FS02 README.
This is a painful issue for me as I enjoy flying in Northern Canada, Alaska, Greenland, etc.
Hopefully, this will be resolved come the next release of FS.
