I've just removed your post because of copyright problems. The Peter Max art is not to be posted anywhere without expressed, written permission from his organization, (which they will not grant). Therefore, any part or likeness of his artwork is not allowed here.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Hey Darrell,

I've just got a question with regards to that Peter Max scheme.

If I recall correctly Tom Harlaar got permission to repaint the Boeing 777-200, are we not allowed to post shots of his repaint, as it is a legalised repaint afterall?.

I still expect that the answer is no :-lol and that is okay, I just wanted to know, thats all. :D

    Sowyn!

Actually, Ash, Tom did not have permission to post it. What he did, is flat out lie to me and state that he did have permission. He even went so far as to doctor up the e-mail that he received from Peter Max to try and make me believe that he was legit. (There were things in his message that just did not make sense). I contacted the Peter Max people myself, and they replied with exactly what they had sent to Tom. The Peter Max message was totally different than what I had received from Tom. As a result, the file was removed from both flightsim.com and avsim at my urging.

Two that I'm aware of are the Peter Max stuff, and the Disney stuff. They both are very strict about the use of their works, and do not generally allow uploading of their images. (There, of course, may be others).

The best thing is to NOT ASK THEM, as it is none of their business what aircraft people fly in FS. Remember the disclaimer on PFG's website? It was there for a reason.

"These are merely artistic depictions of real world aircraft" etc - Pete and Disney need to go practice their iron fists on something else. Copyrights are what's killing everything and everyone these days. I'm surprised someone hasn't copyrighted air yet!

You surprise me Erick! I would think that you, as a designer, would certainly respect the wishes of copyright holders!

The best thing to do, is first of all, be honest, (which Mr. Harlaar was not), and secondly, respect the wishes of organizations who expressly forbid the use of their property. In this case, artwork and name.

Read my EULA and you'll see what I think of excessive copyrights.

Copyrights are there to protect people, yes, but overuse of them does nothing but injure everyone. There is a finite point where it becomes excessive.

LAST EDITED ON May-25-03 AT 03:10AM (EDT)[p]I think if Disney has expressly forbidden the use of their images on a Flightsim jet, then that's that.

    I wouldn't want Disney's lawyers on my #####.

EDIT: Man, you can't even say b-u-t-t in here? :-lol

"Copyrights are there to protect people"

And we Moderators are here to protect fs.com and fsnetwork forums. Therefore, when we see copyrighted material being posted, we take the appropriate action.

What you do with your material is certainly your choice, and likewise, what others do with theirs is certainly their choice, so we do respect their choice. Who is to say how "overuse" and "excessive" (as you put it), are defined?

And now, since this is the "Screenshot" forum, I think it's time to let this thread slip off into some dark corner of cyberspace! :-)
