FRAPS is a downloaded software. No, it is not free.
Follow the link and you'll see that there is NO information about Win 8 and that Win 7 IS compatible. I would bet that GOLD would show the same information, rendering your information wrong again.

It's been a long time but #1 is solved with some settings changes on the Mic screen in Windows. I don't think it is the headset and any set would would do the same right now for you.
