  1. Complete included readme follows ("BFM_Readme.txt"): Battle For Midway for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 ========================================================= Battle For Midway: by Abacus Publishing. Additions, edits, fixes, and repackaging by: Rich ¥Weeds¥ Nagel Overview -------- Thank you for installing Battle For Midway for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2! The original "Battle For Midway" package was created by Abacus Publishing for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1 and Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2. There were *NUMEROUS* mission bugs and typographical errors contained throughout the entire package. Some of the bugs and errors were so severe that some of the missions would completely crash and lock up the simulator, or they could not even be completed (especially in the Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 version, which was simply a conversion of the missions by Abacus Publishing of their Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1 missions). Also, Abacus Publishing's Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 version included original Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1 aircraft designed by Abacus Publishing that were converted to Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 format for the package. These converted aircraft were quite poor looking (and lacking features) due to the nature of the conversions. This edited and repackaged version of Battle For Midway for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 fixes all of that! All of the mission bugs and typographical errors have been corrected and fixed, and all of the converted Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1 aircraft in the missions that were included with the Abacus Publishing package have been substituted with similar stock aircraft that ship with Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2. Note that the original Abacus Publishing aircraft have also been included in this package (with minor bug fixes and edits), although they are not actually used in the edited missions in this package. Also, two campaigns have been created and included in the package, as Abacus Publishing's Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 version did NOT include campaigns... they ONLY included campaigns for their Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1 version (really STRANGE). The campaigns and missions also include generic stock cutscene movies that ship with Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 ("Opening" and "Success" cutscene movies), a new additional printable splash screen and real-world historical map of the battles ("BFM.png" and "BFM_Map.png"), as well as resized "JPG" format versions of the images that are used for the missions' reconnaissance photos ("Recon_BFM_1.jpg" and "Recon_BFM_2.jpg"). The missions have also been edited to add a little bit of weather (some light medium-altitude clouds, and a temperature layer). Lastly, the orignal Abacus Publishing Battle For Midway manual has been scanned and included in this package ("BFM_Manual.pdf"), as well as this HEAVILY edited readme ("BFM_Readme.txt"). Introduction ------------ The backdrop for the Battle For Midway are some very enchanting islands of the Pacific. It is ironic that such lovely scenery should be the setting for some of the most devastating and destructive fights of the entire World War II. You will fly some of the famous planes from this era as we recreate the Japanese and United States missions from the great sea and air battles of the Coral Sea and Midway Atoll. Installation ------------ To install, simply unzip the directories and files contained in the archive to the root of your "Combat Flight Simulator 2" directory on your hard drive (in verbatim). Usage ----- When you're ready to do battle in the Midway and Coral Sea areas and missions, simply start Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2. When Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 starts you can either: 1. Choose the Free Flight option, and fly any of the twelve newly-added aircraft installed. 2. Choose the Quick Combat option, and fly any of the newly-added aircraft against the best that Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 has to offer. 3. Fly one of the two new campaigns. The new campaigns are: * "Battle For Midway - IJN" - Imperial Japanese Navy, from the side of the Japanese. * "Battle For Midway - USN" - U.S. Navy, from the side of the U.S.. 4. Fly any of the new individual missions: * "BFM - Coral Sea Missions" - U.S. or Japan * "BFM - Midway Missions" - U.S. or Japan Missions List ------------- Here is a complete list of the new individual missions: _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_USN_01.MIS U.S. 08:00, March 10, 1942 Coral Sea Mission 01 Attack Japanese Outposts on Lae and Salamaua _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_USN_02.MIS U.S. 11:35, May 7, 1942 Coral Sea Mission 02 Sink the Shoho _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_USN_03.MIS U.S. 11:20, May 8, 1942 Coral Sea Mission 03 Protect the Lexington _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_IJN_01.MIS Japan 08:00, May 6, 1942 Coral Sea Mission 04 Launch to Attack American Carrier _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_IJN_02.MIS Japan 09:42, May 7, 1942 Coral Sea Mission 05 Defend the Shoho _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_IJN_03.MIS Japan 11:27, May 8, 1942 Coral Sea Mission 06 Destroy the American Aircraft Carriers _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_USN_04.MIS U.S. 07:10, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 01 Scramble to Defend Midway _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_USN_05.MIS U.S. 08:06, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 02 Sink the Kaga _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_USN_06.MIS U.S. 10:00, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 03 Escort Dive Bombers to Attack Hiryu _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_USN_07.MIS U.S. 14:40, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 04 Save the Yorktown _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_USN_08.MIS U.S. 17:00, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 05 Escort Bombers to Sink Hiryu _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_IJN_04.MIS Japan 06:10, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 06 Escort the Bombers to Midway _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_IJN_05.MIS Japan 08:06, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 07 Intercept American Torpedo Bombers _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_IJN_06.MIS Japan 10:20, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 08 Reconnaissance Flight from Akagi _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_IJN_07.MIS Japan 12:00, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 09 Sink the Yorktown _______________________________________________________________________________ BFM_IJN_08.MIS Japan 17:00, June 4, 1942 Midway Mission 10 Soryu Needs Help _______________________________________________________________________________ Campaigns and Missions Notes ---------------------------- There are a few important things about the campaigns and missions that you should note: 1. Some of the missions have you launch from the carrier (or already in the air) and immediately intercept incoming bombers. In these missions, when you get behind the carrier, Combat Flight Simulator 2 thinks you are trying to land and will bring up the Landing Signal Officer (LSO). Just ignore the LSO and keep on your enemy's tail! 2. While it is possible to take off from the carrier decks, setting the planes back onto the carrier deck may be a challenge. When landing, make sure that your tailhook and flaps are extended, try to approach the carrier deck as slow as possible, and quickly apply the brakes as hard as you can. 3. Missions that include a goal of destroying a carrier can be QUITE difficult (and time consuming), especially when running Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 with "Maximum Realism" settings. Remember to efficiently command your own wingman and squadron (if equipped), and to quickly and accurately drop your bombs (if equipped) on the carrier. Then KEEP STRAFING the carrier with your guns for an eventual successfully completed mission! 4. Careful attention to your aircraft's "Fuel Mixture" and "Prop Pitch" is a MUST when running Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 with "Maximum Realism" settings to ensure that you have enough fuel for the trip home. Adjust your "Fuel Mixture" and "Prop Pitch" to the correct settings BEFORE warping (and during the battle) to ensure that you don't run out of fuel and crash into the sea! 5. Final waypoint warping is not enabled in most of the missions. To save you hundreds of miles of flying back to your departing airstrip or aircraft carrier after finishing a mission, add "Free_Warp=1" under the "[CHEATS]" section of your "CFS2.cfg" file using Windows Notepad. Another alternative is to install Bill Potvin's "CFO Weather v7.5.7" (http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/Cfsops/Modules/cfo_weather/Cfo_Weather_75.htm) which has a feature to enable the "Free Warp" cheat on the fly. You can then warp to the final waypoint near the landing area of the airstrip or aircraft carrier after finishing a mission. IMPORTANT NOTE: Ensure that you have ACTUALLY COMPLETED the mission before using "Free Warp", or you will NOT be credited for accomplishing the mission! 6. Unlike Abacus Publishing's original and relatively bug-filled version of their "Battle For Midway" package for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2, I myself have successfully completed each of these edited missions and campaigns numerous times during testing with Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 configured for "Maximum Realism" settings, and campaign difficulty set to "Hard"... so I KNOW that "it can be done" ENJOY and HAVE FUN! ------------------- Thanks from the staff of Abacus Publishing! 3. Sorry for bumping my older thread, but has anyone come across a valid registration code for Wetter 2000 v1.7? I've come up empty searching for one, really a shame that the author is no where to be found... I'd GLADLY pay to register the program.
  4. This is kind of morbid (?), but I've recently been doing something similar after binge watching old episodes of "Air Disasters" on the Smithsonian Channel. After watching a specific notable episode I'll fire up Flight Simulator for a look at the area of the crash, destination airport, and intended flight plan. Quite interesting to see the landscape of the areas in question. Note that I'm STILL running FS2000 Pro, but it's landscape and airports are detailed enough to really get bird's eye view of the areas and situations of the episodes.

This is a panel for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 Professional for the Mooney Bravo that includes a togglable ADF indicator. The ADF indicator is positioned over the VOR 1 indicator when it is toggled and displayed, and the radio stack includes an additional navigation radio to set the frequency of the ADF indicator (similar to the Mooney Bravo IFR panel's radio stack). Also included is a "Minicontrols" subpanel, like the one included with the all of the aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 98. The new panel can be accessed within Flight Simulator 2000 Professional by selecting the "Mooney Bravo ADF" aircraft. The various subpanels and the togglable ADF indicator for the aircraft are selected in the usual manner by using the following keyboard hotkeys: SHIFT+1 = Main Panel SHIFT+2 = ADF Indicator SHIFT+3 = Radio Stack SHIFT+4 = GPS SHIFT+5 = Annunciator SHIFT+6 = Overhead Panel SHIFT+7 = Compass SHIFT+8 = Minicontrols ...or by selecting them using the "Views/Instrument Panel" menu. To install, simply unzip the archive to the "FS2000\AIRCRAFT\MOONEY_BRAVO" subdirectory on your hard drive overwriting the existing "Aircraft.cfg" file (a backup of the original file is included in the archive, "Aircraft.ori"), maintaining the directory structure within the archive.

  7. (Sorry for the forum cross-posting, but it's relevant to FS2000 and FS2002) Would anyone have the installer (or know of a working download link) for the shareware version of SimFlyers Washington Dulles (KIAD) scenery for Flight Simulator 2000? Unfortunately the links at Archive.org are dead: https://web.archive.org/web/20100210161804/http://www.simflyers.net/dlkiad.htm https://web.archive.org/web/20100210161804/http://www.simflyers.net/files/kiad/FS2000/sf-kiad2002.zip Downloads for SimFlyers other sceneries at Archive.org still work, only the one for KIAD is broken. This is the description from the web page at Archive.org: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- FS2000 only. This is an older scenery package. It is FS2000/FS2002 compatible, however please use it for FS2000 installation only. Main Scenery - sf-kiad2002.zip - 12.5 MB -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- So, note that even though the filename contains "2002", it's for FS2000 BTW, I noticed that here in the FlightSim.com FS2000 file libraries all of the SimFlyers scenery packs are available for download... all of them EXCEPT for KIAD. For example, SimFlyers sfklax02.zip and sf-kmco.zip for FS2000 are here at FlightSim.com, but unfortunately nothing for KIAD. Anyhow, would anyone happen to have the installer for KIAD, or know of a working download link for the installer?

  9. I REALLY wish that one could still purchase a registration code for this utility! Unfortunately the author is no where to be found, and the original web site for the utility is long-since gone Would be GREAT if someone had a registration code that they could share for this no-longer supported utility.
  10. Many thanks for the info Yeah, I wasn't sure which of the previous versions of MSFS had that 'feature'. I know that FS3-FS95 did, but I wasn't sure about FS98. Sounds like that MS removed it from FS98-FS2000, but may have re-added it to FS2002/CFS2.
  11. I've tried it with most of the default aircraft that come with FS2000 Pro and none of them do it... quite strange. I don't think that a floatplane wouldn't 'splash-crash' into the water, it would simply land on it. All of the aircraft in CFS2 (the default ones, as well as third-party) will make a splash sound when touching down on water, slowly start to sink, and then result in an aircraft crash.
  12. (Sorry for the forum cross-posting, but it's relevant here as well) Does Flight Simulator 2000/Pro support splashing in the water when attempting to land/taxi in it (like previous versions of MSFS)? I know that in the previous versions that if you tried to land on the various large bodies water (or taxi into it) the aircraft would make a splashing sound, resulting in sinking into the water and a crash. I THINK that this also works in FS2002 (which I don't have), as in Combat Flight Simulator 2 (which I do have) it indeed does function.

This scenery file (M5244271.bgl) fixes a problem in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 where the ground at Catalina Airport (KAVX) is not solid. The elevation of the island and airport is 1,601 feet, but attempting to land or takeoff from the airport results in sinking into the island all the way down to sea level. The scenery file contains several flatten polygons that fix the errors with the existing polygons in the default scenery. Simply copy the files included in the archive to the "FS2000\SceneDB\WestHem\USSW\Scenery" directory on your hard drive. Also included in the archive is a backup of the original scenery file (M5244271.ori), as well as a backup of the fixed scenery file (M5244271.new).
