• X-Plane 11 Preview

    X-Plane 11 has not been released yet, but we do now have a first beta version to examine. This is the first major version change in quite a few years and Laminar Research has made some major changes to various parts of the sim. Stuart McGregor has had a few days to try it out and offers this early report.

    FlightGear's Atmospheric Light Scattering Rendering Framework

    Creating a realistic sky and lighting is more complicated than you might think. FlightGear uses "Atmospheric Light Rendering" to actually create the lighting effects based on conditions, rather than just displaying images. Thorsten Renk explains how this all works.

    Review: Sim720 - Ikarus C42 Microlight

    The Ikarus C42, manufactured in Germany by Comco Ikarus, has 45 years of experience designed into it to make it one of the most successful production aircraft in the air. Reviewer Michael Hayward gives the FSX version from Sim720 a go and finds it a most pleasant aircraft to fly, with generally nice features all around.

    Review: Aerosoft - Airport Calvi

    The Airport Malaga - Costa del Sol is the busiest airport in the Spanish region Andalusia, offering connections to and from the whole world.     Review: Carenado - Piper Navajo

    Carenado is of course well-known for their GA aircraft. In this review, Nils Lips takes a look at one of their latest offerings for X-Plane, the PA31 Navajo HD Series, a light twin that comes with a lot of features like HD textures, 3D gauges, HQ digital sounds and more. He finds it to be an exciting plane to fly but with a few flaws.

    ForeFlight Plug-in For FSX/P3D From Flight1

    Flight1 announces a free plug-in that allows users to connect ForeFlight Mobile with either FSX or Prepar3D instead of directly to a GPS. ForeFlight then works with the simulators exactly as it would work with real world data in an aircraft cockpit.

    Laminar Research, creator of the X-Plane flight simulator franchise, has announced the release of the first public beta of X-Plane 11. The public beta is being released now so customers who have purchased the combo X-Plane 10 / X-Plane 11 download may try out the beta in advance of the final release of X-Plane 11, which is scheduled to occur by the end of the year.
