    FSX Steam Edition

Take to the skies in the world's favorite flight simulator!

The multi award winning Microsoft Flight Simulator X lands on Steam for the first time. Take off from anywhere in the world, flying some of the world's most iconic aircraft to any one of 24,000 destinations. Microsoft Flight Simulator X Steam Edition has updated multiplayer and Windows 8.1 support.

Take the controls of aircraft such as the 747 jumbo jet, F/A-18 Hornet, P-51D Mustang, EH-101 helicopter and others - an aircraft for every kind of flying and adventure. Select your starting location, set the time, the season, and the weather. Take off from one of more than 24,000 airports and explore a world of aviation beauty that has entranced millions of plane fans from across the globe.

FSX Steam Edition offers players a connected world where they can choose who they want to be, from air-traffic controller to pilot or co-pilot. Racing mode allows you to compete against friends with four types of racing, including Red Bull Air Race courses, the unlimited Reno National Championship course, as well as cross country, competition sailplane courses and fictional courses like the Hoop and Jet Canyon. Test your skills with three different levels of difficulty, from simple pylon racing to racing highly challenging courses in a variety of weather conditions.

With over 80 missions, test your prowess to earn rewards. Try your hand at Search and Rescue, Test Pilot, Carrier Operations, and more. Keep track of how you have done on each mission and improve your skill levels until you're ready for the next challenge.

FSX Steam Edition enables pilots to fly the aircraft of their dreams, from the De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver floatplane and Grumman G-21A Goose to the AirCreation 582SL Ultralight and Maule M7 Orion with wheels and skis. Add to your collection of aircraft and improve the fidelity of your world with FSX add-ons.

The inclusion of AI-controlled jetways, fuel trucks and moving baggage carts, adds extra realism to the experience of flying at busy airports.

Whether you want to challenge your friends to a heart-pounding race or just take in the scenery, FSX Steam Edition will immerse you in a dynamic, living world that brings a realistic flying experience into your home.

    Please Note

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition (FSX: Steam Edition) is functionally similar to the boxed version of Microsoft Flight Simulator X (MSFSX). We have worked extensively with third party developers to make sure the two products can work alongside each other, however due to the wide range of add-on products available for MSFSX, we cannot guarantee that your existing content will work with Microsoft Flight Simulator X Steam Edition.

If you already have MSFSX installed on your PC and are concerned about running the two games alongside each other, you may wish to consider installing FSX: Steam Edition on a separate PC.

If you already have MSFSX and add-ons installed they will only be accessible through your existing installation. They will not be duplicated across the original edition and Steam Edition of the simulator.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition Change Log

The below change log represents the key changes made to FSX: Gold Edition to create FSX: Steam Edition.

    General

    • FSX: Steam Edition is now built using the VS2013 compiler for better optimisation and performance. (Still makes use of VS2005 libraries for backwards compatibility.)
    • Updated splash, launcher and mission preview images for FSX:SE versions.

    Multiplayer, networking and communications

    • Gamespy networking now replaced by new Steam networking.
    • Game chat now integrated with Steam chat
    • Friends/Banned lists now integrated with Steam.
    • Game invites now use Steam.
    • Host networking defaults to a single port 6112.
    • Host networking uses 27016 for Steam Master Server Browser.
    • Host timeout (loss of connection to host) now 35 seconds by default (was 55).
    • "Disconnected" message dialog now retained on screen for 4 mins before automatic dismissal (was 30 secs).

    Steam Support

    Compatibility with FSX boxed

    • FSX and FSX: Steam Edition co-Existence feature allows both versions to be installed on the same machine.

    • Fixed issue where client gets dropped from a multiplayer game after they crash into the host.
    • Fixed issue where the Host Options in multiplayer/ Free Flight allow a user to have a maximum of 99 player slots.

    • Fixed issue where the application's taskbar preview window displays no content on Windows 8 and above
    • Prevent default colour mode for Windows 7 and above (enable automatic display composition).

90+% of the fixes are for multiplayer. Many of the rest we have had for years.

With Steam you can also download and reinstall it on as many machines as you like. Makes it worth the price along with the fixes.

A LOT of fixes? They incorporated two known tweaks and the rest all relate specifically to the steam MP setup.

Everyone is entitled to make a buck. I certainly wouldn't start jumping up and down in excitement though.

No, because no one of us bought FSX from Dovetail Games. We bought it from Microsoft. For a measly $5 while on sale it is an absolute no-brainer, IMHO.

Also, considering that DTG has bent over backwards to make it FSX (original) compatible, that means that both freeware and payware products will continue to be used. We are not "locked in" to DTG's own forthcoming DLC content, unlike the crappy deal we had with Microsoft's "Flight" disaster!

I also have been given to understand that it will be possible to use one's existing FSX license to download and install FSX:SE...

Yeah, they are true "ripoffs," NOT!

Well, they can't mess up FSX as their agreement with Microsoft prevents any major changes. As to what they do with their new sim they release next year, that we will have to wait and see.

So, when the special is over, we can buy an 8 year old program for $25??? Lol. Or P3D for double that? (at least it's being constantly updated!)

Ok im still concerned about one thing though. Does this release allow for local area network multiplayer flying? Im sure a lot of virtual clubs who fly offline on a local area network via FShost, wants to know if its still possible or not with the FSX SE?

      Bought 2 train simulator games.

Thought, ok install games drive trains

Stupid me, steam has to intervene

Never got the train simulator games I PAID for to run

No more 'steam' rip offs EVER.

I love this! I have MSFS X on disk, but I have to dig out a disk drive to install it since my computer doesn't have one attached, then i have to download the sp2 update, then modify the config for high mem, blah, blah, blah, once a year. I do this because it seems to help performance and I love scenery and aircraft ad dons, but tend to clutter my installation with them. This makes re-installs so much easier, and $5! yipee!

Five bucks for a vanilla back-up that is always available. Too good to pass up.
Got at least a 10% performance increase with Friday Harbor, everything fully maxed out. Now to start applying add-ons, one by one.
Because it installs separately to my boxed FSX, I get the best of both worlds.
